India and England complete their Champions Trophy preparations in the third and final ODI of the series at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
The match is a dead rubber because India proved far too strong for Jos Buttler’s side in Nagpur and Cuttack, winning both matches by four wickets.
Rohit Sharma’s men will now aim for a clean sweep at the cavernous 114,000-seat venue while England will look to salvage some pride from a white-ball tour that has not gone to plan.

India v England Third ODI Tips
- India to win – 4/9
- Shubman Gill to score 50+ runs – 11/8
- Adil Rashid to be England’s top bowler – 27/10
India aim for a whitewash
India have been dominant throughout the series, demonstrating their all-round strength and showing up some of England’s fundamental flaws.
In the second ODI, the home fans were treated to a century from Rohit, who returned to form after 16 months without an international ton in the format.
His was the standout contribution but the Men in Blue have come to rely on a couple of consistent performers with bat and ball over the past couple of years.
Ravindra Jadeja brings a crucial balance to the side in his role as an all-rounder.
The left-arm spinner took 3-35 in Cuttack, having snared 3-26 in Nagpur a few days before and looks to be right on top of his game at the moment.
Likewise, opener Shubman Gill continues to score runs with ease against England.
He struck a sublime 60 off 52 balls in an opening stand of 136 with Rohit in the second ODI to ensure India’s run chase went as smoothly as possible.
The Ahmedabad wicket is known to favour chasing teams, with its dry surface aiding spinners during the day and becoming more batting-friendly under lights.
India’s combination of potent spinners and an in-form top order makes them deserved favourites to complete a clean sweep.
Gill has license to thrill
This will be Gill’s 50th ODI and he currently stands second on the list of all-time batting averages in the format just behind the Netherlands’ Ryan ten Doeschate.
His average of 58.92 has been back on the rise recently after the 25-year-old suffered a dip in his performance levels in 2024.
That came just after a bout of dengue caused the right-hander to lose six kilos of weight.
But he has struck eight half centuries in his last 16 ODI appearances and, on a pitch that suits his fluent stroke play, looks well-placed to follow up on scores of 87 and 60 with another 50 in Ahmedabad.
Rashid remains England’s bowling star
Adil Rashid has been England’s standout bowler on this tour, using his variations effectively to trouble Indian batters.
He took 2-49 in Nagpur and, although more expensive, was one of England’s biggest threats to turn the tide at Cuttack.
With his experience and recent form, he remains the tourist’s best hope of restricting India’s powerful lineup.
With conditions likely to assist him during the day, he could exploit India’s tendency to occasionally falter against quality leg-spin and add to his wicket tally.
