Match Summary

  • Uganda 276 all out in 49.5 Overs
  • Hong Kong China 200 all out in 46.3 Overs
  • Uganda won by 76 runs

Cricket Cranes took care of business against their close rivals for promotion with a dominant performance against Hong Kong China.

Uganda used an unchanged team from the one that won against Singapore with Henry Ssenyondo still preferred ahead of Bilal Hassun.

Hong Kong China won the toss and elected to bowl first. Robinson Obuya (25) and Shrideep Mangela (16) had an opening stand of 52 before the former departed.

Raghav Dhawan (52) continued his rich vein of form with his third half-century in a row as he put on a fourth-wicket partnership of 111 with Aplpesh Ramjani (68). Captain Riazat Ali Shah (40) then carried the burden of the run-scoring that helped Uganda finish at a modest 276 from their innings.

In the run chase, Hong Kong China started steadily until Alpesh Ramjani struck twice in his first over to remove both openers. This triggered the chain reaction as Hong Kong China spilled to 56/5 and they were unable to recover from that situation.

Despite the efforts of their captain Yasin Murtaza (50) and Zeeshan Ali (51), the required runs proved too much for the tail and the run chase ran out of steam with 76 runs still required.

Alpesh Ramjani (4/18) had an outstanding all-round performance that also earned him the Player of the Match award. Cosmas Kyewuta (2/43) and Juma Miyagi (2/54) chipped in with wickets.

The win strengthens Uganda’s grip at the top of the table and puts some distance between and Hong Kong China.

Uganda is also fortunate to survive their two difficult game days with minimal loss, dropping only a point in the abandoned game with Italy.

The Cricket Cranes will finish their second round against Tanzania on Sunday before returning home.
