
CAF has on Thursday drawn the roadmap to determine the nations that will take the remaining two slots of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Seven teams will compete for the remaining two slots and these were subjected to a draw that was conducted at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.
The seven teams are; Algeria, South Africa, Comoros, Egypt, Malawi, The Gambia and Gabon
Algeria were handed a bye to the second round by virtue of their number one ranking from performances in the previous three CHAN tournaments.
The draw for the first round of second qualifying stage will see Comoros facing Malawi, South Africa will play Egypt while The Gambia will take on Gabon
The winner of the encounter between Comoros and Malawi (Matches 1 & 2), and South Africa and Egypt (Matches 3 & 4) will meet in the second qualifying round.
The winner of that tie will advance to the final tournament.
The winner of the matchup between The Gambia and Gabon (Matches 5 & 6) will take on Algeria in the second qualifying round. The victor there also earns a place at the finals.
The two teams that will qualify automatically join group C that has Uganda, Niger and Guinea.
The first round qualification games will be played as follows:
1st leg: 28 February-2 March
2nd leg: 7-9 March
Second Round Qualification games
1st leg: 2-4 May
2nd leg: 9-11 May
The finals of the TotalEnergies CAF CHAN, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024 will take place from 2-30 August, 2025, and will comprise of 19 teams.
It should be noted that the draws for the other qualified teams were already drawn at the start of the year.
The Groups are as follows:
GROUP A
Kenya, Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, Zambia
GROUP B
Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic
GROUP C
Uganda, Niger, Guinea, Qualifier 1, Qualifier 2
GROUP D
Senegal, Congo, Sudan, Nigeria
