The second day of action during the 2025 Rwanda Golf Open was played on Thursday, 13th February at the par-72 Kigali Golf Resort and Villas.

It was the second and decisive round upon which the cut was determined for those who will complete the third, then the final round on Saturday.

A total of thirty (30) professionals made the grade to partake of the 50,000 USD money fund.

Eleven Kenyans, five Ugandans, five Zimbabweans, three Rwanda professionals, two Zambians, two Nigerians as well one apiece from Cote D’ Ivoire and Ghana made the treasured cut.

Overnight leader Celestin Nsanzuwera from Rwanda maintains the lead with 8-under 136 in 36 holes.

Nsanzuwera scored 2-under-70 to counter his opening 6-under-66 round one mark with an eye catching eagle shot on par 5 hole six during the second round where he also scored five birdies, seven pars and five bogies.

He is three shots ahead of Zimbabwe’s Promise Sembreiro (139).

Uganda’s top professional Ronald Rugumayo (140) is number three on the leaderboard.

Rugumayo scored the best score of 4-under-68 during the second round with 5 birdies, one bogie and 12 pars.

Visitor Mapwanya (Zimbabwe) is fourth (141) with long hitting Kenyan legend Dismas Indiza (142) in fifth place.

David Wakhu (Kenya) is sixth with 143 whilst the duo of Njoroge Kibugu (Kenya) and Tadeo Gaita Rodell (Uganda) are both joint seventh with 144 apiece.

The top ten after two rounds is completed by Clive Ngaru (Zimbabwe) and Nigerian Francis Epe with a cumulative 145 gross apiece.

The Ugandans who made the cut include Rugumayo, Gaita, Abraham Ainamani, David Kamulindwa and Vincent Byamukama.

Meanwhile, Kenya’s vastly experienced amateur Michael Karanga is 3-under-141 in 36 holes as he leads the gross (elite golfers).

He is two shots better than Rwanda’s Jean D’Amour Hitayezu (143) who is currently second.

Adel Balala (147), Uganda’s national team captain Joseph Cwinya-ai (149) and Alain Niyonkuru (149) complete the top five positions.

Round three for the elite (gross) and professionals will swing off on Friday, 14th February 2025 ahead of the grand climax the following day.
