Another weekend and another action-packed professional boxing show in Manchester.
We return to the scene of Derek Chisora’s remarkable win over Otto Wallin seven days ago for Jack Catterall vs Arnold Barboza Jr at the Co-op Live Arena. With the vacant WBO interim world super lightweight title on the line, excitement is guaranteed.
Catterall enjoys the backing of the home support when facing his unbeaten opponent from Los Angeles. Will the local lad win and add his name to an already impressive list of British world champions? El Gato must be at his best to defeat a man desperate to jet back to California with the belt.
Former professional boxer and popular sportsbook writer Frankie Monkhouse advised backing Chisora to upset the odds and win here last week. He now sets his sights on a Manchester double when previewing Catterall vs Barboza, and you can follow his preview, round up of the betting odds and predictions on this page.

El Gato targets a high-five
Jack Catterall will step into the ring before his adoring public at the venue on fight night, looking to land a fifth win on the bounce. The 31-year-old from nearby Chorley, Lancashire, arrives with a professional boxing record detailing 30 wins against just one defeat, with 13 of those victories coming inside the distance. The one blot on his copybook came against Scotland’s Josh Taylor in 2022, with three versions of the world title on the line.
The Englishman lost to the Tartan Tornado in Glasgow on a split decision but had every right to feel aggrieved. Most fight fans and boxing lovers thought Catterall had done enough to merit the win and he should be a world champion. El Gato repaid the faith in him shown by his backers when scoring a revenge win over Taylor in Leeds last May on points in another decision that split opinion, raising more questions than answers.
Since losing to Taylor at The SSE Hydro in early 2022, Catterall has fought four times and earned four wins on points. In October, he beat the experienced Regis Prograis over 12 rounds at this venue, building a convincing winning margin on the scorecards. Catterall fans would love to see more of the same on Saturday, but the fighter and his team would accept a victory of any description. Getting his hands on the world title belt is the main objective and is more important than the performance. It’s a win-at-all-costs scenario.

American plans to spoil the show
Arnold Barboza Jr travels from Los Angeles to Manchester, looking to spoil the party in England and become champion of the world. The 33-year-old arrives with an unblemished record consisting of 31 wins and 11 knockouts. He’s currently ranked number ten in the world at the weight but would leapfrog some famous names if he adds another victory to his CV on British soil. Those starting in the away corner appreciate the size of the task that awaits but know they have the skills, experience, and character to deny the crowd victory.
Barboza debuted with a six-round points win in Santa Ynez in 2013 and has climbed through the charts since. The 5’ 9” orthodox boxer has won on points in each of his last two bouts, and his last eight have all tested the judges. Despite boasting power in both hands, Arnold’s previous stoppage win came against William Silva in Las Vegas in November 2019. The visitor is a fighter happy to remain patient, ignore the crowd, and work his way into a contest before opening an advantage on the cards.
Barboza’s most recent showing saw him outwork and outpoint Jose Carlos Ramirez in Saudi Arabia over ten rounds on the undercard of Gilberto Ramirez vs. Chris Billam-Smith. He battled hard that evening, securing victory by two, two, and four rounds. He’s unbeaten, fights without pressure, and knows a win on Saturday would set up an important year in his career. The American is boxing for his future at the top end of the division.

Catterall vs Barboza Jr betting tips
Saturday will be a crossroads in the career of both Catterall and Barboza Jr. The winner will speed towards the biggest names in the division, and holding the WBO world title will seriously boost their earning potential. The loser will return to the drawing board, plotting a course back into title contention. But will the new champion fly the Union flag or the stars and stripes on the grand stage?
Here are my best bets for Saturday’s fight broadcast live on DAZN.
Fight to go the distance
After researching the stats and trends ahead of Saturday’s slug-fest, we’re happy to follow the numbers and back the fight to last the distance. With this approach, it doesn’t matter who wins as long as the gladiators complete all 12 rounds and force the scoring judges sat at ringside into making a decision. Bet on the fight to go the distance, and you’ll land a profit if either Catterall or Barboza wins points.
Need more convincing? Catterall has boxed seven times since he stopped Oscar Amador inside three rounds at Wembley Arena in April 2019. Each of those fights have gone the distance, including a points loss in those two classics against Josh Taylor. Since losing in Glasgow, Catterall has beaten Darragh Foley in ten rounds and Jorge Linares, Josh Taylor, and Regis Prograis over the championship distance. The form of both fighters suggests this weekend’s main attraction will last long into the evening.

Barboza Jr win on points
After picking the upset at this venue seven days ago, we have profits in our pockets as we shoot for another win that will hurt bookies. Arnold Barboza Jr is an unbeaten fighter with a perfect 31 wins. He’s the taller man of the two, with the longer reach, and is experienced enough to know the crowd can’t help Catterall when the first bell sounds and the action gets going at the Co-op Live.
When creating my book, I had this fight much closer to a 50/50, so I was pleasantly surprised to see the traders working at major online sportsbooks confidently supporting Catterall. As any dedicated sports bettor knows, if you back enough overpriced selections, you’ll end the year in profit. We’re happy to oppose the traders for the second weekend on the bounce when backing Barboza Jr. to win.
Bet on Barboza Jr to win on points at 11/4 with Betfred
