The last recognised Cheltenham Trials Day in Ireland takes place in Gowran Park, and we have a seven-race card to look forward to.

Disappointingly, only three have been declared for the feature Grade 2 Red Mills Chase, but there won’t be much separating the three runners.

Gowran Park 1:20 Sea Moon & Jukebox Jury At Burgage Stud Maiden Hurdle – 2m (4yo)

A sea of support came throughout the morning for HUDSON as he made his debut in a three-year-old maiden hurdle at Leopardstown’s Christmas Festival, but for all of that support, he could only manage a well-beaten fifth.

That run was a lot better than the finishing distance suggested, and with that experience now under his belt, he can make the most of this opportunity and get off the mark at the second time of asking.

For others with experience, Kool One can fill one of the places.

Gowran Park 1:55 Grade 3 Red Mills Trial Hurdle – 2m (5yo+)

Kitzbuhel made a winning debut for Willie Mullins at Punchestown, beating Colonel Mustard, but at 4/11, I want to take him on.

SIR GERHARD is a multiple Grade 1 winning hurdler, but has looked a shell of his former self in his two starts this season.

But, he has recently had a confidence-boosting win in a charity race at Punchestown a few weeks back, and now, with that win under his belt and in conditions that will suit, there is every chance that Danny Mullins will take matters into his own hand and make the running with Sir Gerhard, turning this into a true staying test on bottomless ground.

  • Selection: Sir Gerhard 5/2
  • Danger: Kitzbuhel 4/11

Gowran Park 2:30 Albert Bartlett Triple Crown Series At Punchestown Festival 2025 Qualifier Handicap Hurdle – 2m4f (4yo+)

Quite the competitive handicap hurdle with many coming in here in good form, but none better than BRIDIE’S BEAU.

This son of Blue Bresil relished the step up to 2m3f on heavy ground at Punchestown, winning by an easy six lengths.

He faces an extra furlong today, which is sure to suit, and even with a 14-pound higher mark, Bridie’s Beau should take a lot of beating in this grade.

At bigger odds, Killaney King can run well once again off one pound higher than for his second at Limerick over Christmas.

  • Selection: Bridie’s Beau 3/1
  • Danger: Killaney King 8/1

Gowran Park 3:05 Grade 2 Red Mills Chase – 2m4f (5yo+)

Saint Sam made all to win this last season, and under similar conditions today, he can make a bold bid from the front once again. But, he was a bit disappointing back over hurdles at Punchestown when he was turned over at short odds, leaving him looking vulnerable here.

Classic Getaway is holding his form well this season, but he is the one who needs to find a bit to take today’s prize, so that leaves us with the Henry de Bromhead-trained JOURNEY WITH ME.

He has been beaten an aggregate of 80 lengths in his two runs this season, but you can forgive him his run in the Fleur De Lys Chase at Windsor as that race was over from a long way out, and he was left to come home at his own pace.

His only visit to Gowran Park resulted in a facile bumper win, and back in this less demanding field on ground that he will relish, he has a golden opportunity to get back into the winner’s enclosure today.

  • Selection: Journey With Me 15/8
  • Danger: Saint Sam 11/10

Gowran Park 3:42 QuinnBet Beginners Chase – 2m4f (5yo+)

This has the makings of a cracking beginners chase and one that will be worth following down the line.

Willie Mullins runs four here, and stable jockey Paul Townend has chosen to ride BLIZZARD OF OZ on the back of his two solid runs over fences behind Lecky Watson and then Quai De Bourbon over course and distance.

That is the standout piece of form in this field, and Blizzard Of Oz should be making it third time lucky over fences today.

His stablemate, Lisnagar Fortune, is worth a second look here. He always had the build for chasing, but after overjumping the first on chase debut and then ploughing through the third, it was a case of getting him around safely from there on in.

He should have learned a lot from that experience, so don’t be surprised if he leaves that chase debut well behind him today.

  • Selection: Blizzard Of Oz
  • Danger: Lisnagar Oscar

Gowran Park 4:15 O’Driscolls Irish Whiskey Careys Cottage Cup Handicap Chase – 2m4f (5yo+)

A tight-knit handicap chase to try to solve here, and it may be worth taking a chance with PRINCE ZALTAR.

He returned from a 400-day absence at Punchestown and ran well to rally and take second place up the run-in.

That run should bring him forward, and expect him to go close once again off a low racing weight.

Better Times Ahead would be interesting if supported in the betting on his seasonal return, but the likelihood is that he will need the run.

Top weight Cleatus Poolaw is very interesting on handicap debut and is one to keep a close eye on in the betting.

  • Selection: Prince Zaltar
  • Danger: Cleatus Poolaw

Gowran Park 4:50 Ronan Lawlor Memorial Irish EBF Mares (Pro/Am) Flat Race – 2m1f (4yo+)

The Willie Mullins-trained INTROVERSIO was sent off the 1/2 favourite for her debut at Punchestown last month but could only manage a fourth-place finish.

When the vet examined her post-race, it was discovered that she had pulled a muscle during the race. If all is okay with her today, she should be able to right Punchestown’s wrongs.

Champagne Venture, who finished third to subsequent Grade 2 winner Bambino Fever, comes here with a strong place chance if she can improve on that form.

  • Selection: Introversio
  • Danger: Champagne Venture
