  • Lugazi FC Vs Wakiso Giants FC, Lugazi 3pm

The highly anticipated clash between growing rivals KCCA and Vipers takes centre stage when match day seventeen of the StarTimes Uganda Premier league continues with four matches on Sunday.

The hosts come into the game on the back of a disappointing few weeks in which they lost their appeal in the case versus Gavin Kizito and also fall to NEC 1-0 on league resumption.

With 13 points behind the Venoms, the Kasasiro must win to keep their slim hopes of staying in the contention alive.

They are still without several key players including captain Julius Poloto, Usama Arafat, Peter Magambo, Steven Munguchi and Emmanuel Anyama but have right back Gavin Kizito back after serving a one match suspension in the defeat to NEC.

Vipers, unbeaten since John Ayala Luyinda are top of the log with 37 points and victory will officially end KCCA’s pursuit of the title.

They welcome back Derrick Ndahiro from a two-match suspension following a red card he got in the win over UPDF but centre back Rogers Torach is suspended after accumulation of three yellow cards.

Allan Okello who is decent form faces his ex-bosses at Lugogo for the first time and will be the main attraction on the day.

In the reverse fixture, Ashraf Mugume scored a late equaliser to earn KCCA a point at Kitende.

At Kavumba, second placed NEC will move top of the standings for at least four hours if they beat hosts Police in a 4pm kick off.

NEC are buoyant after a 1-0 win over KCCA in their last outing while Police lost by the same score line at Lugazi.

Hussein Mbalangu’s men are second on the table with 36 points while the Cops are 11th with 18 points.

The reverse fixture at the MTN Omondi stadium, Lugogo ended in a goalless stalemate.

In Lugazi, hosts Lugazi take on Wakiso Giants in a relegation six-pointer.

The newly promoted side managed by Steven Bogere beat Police 1-0 in their last game and will hope to build on that as they tend move further away from the relegation monster.

At the moment, they sit 13th with 17 points, four points ahead of the Purple Sharks who drew 1-1 with defending champions SC Villa on Tuesday.

The first-round clash at Kabaka Kyabaggu ended in a goalless draw but victory for either will go a long way in determining their fate at the end of the season.
