2025 Zone V Volleyball: Formidable local organizing committee confirmed

The third edition of the Zone Volleyball Club championship will spike off on Wednesday, 26th February to Tuesday, 4th March 2025 in Kampala city, Uganda.

Two venues; Lugogo Indoor Arena and the Old Kampala Sports Arena will host the clubs from the 12 countries that are in Zone V.

To ensure smooth organization for this championship, a formidable committee overseen by the president of Zone V Sadik Nasiwu was put in place.

Joseph Odong is the chairperson of the local organizing committee for Zone V championship.

He will work alongside Innocent Komakech, a FIVB certified referee as the referee delegate for the championship and Joseph Collins Ssemanda, the head of marketing.

Joseph Will from South Sudan is the president control committee, Ibrahim Bizimana (Tanzania) as the technical director and Daniel Okwee as the media delegate, among others.

There are other sub-committees on protocol, transport, accommodation, technical and other dockets.

“The preparations to have a tranquil Zone V Volleyball club championship are in high gear. We have confirmed two venues that will be used (Lugogo Arena and Old Kampala Arena). So far, twenty clubs have confirmed to take part and we shall be closing entries by Friday, 21st February 2025 ahead of the technical committee meeting” Odong, the local organizing committee chairperson stated

Key stakeholders as Government of Uganda (GOU) through the National Council Olympic Committe, Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC), Uganda Police, Old Kampala Sports Arena, Jibu Water, Pallisa Agro Processing, NG Technologies (Ticketing) and a number of other partners have combined efforts to make this tournament a complete success.

So far, twenty clubs are some of the confirmed teams include Rukinzo (Burundi), defending champions Kenya Pipeline Company (Kenya), Armee Patriotique Rwandaise (ARP) and Rwanda Energy Group from Rwanda, Cobra Sports Club (South Sudan), Jeshi Stars and Tanzania Prison Services (Tanzania), Nemostars, Sport –S, KAVC, KCCA, Vision Volleyball Camp, Ndejje University Elites, KCB Nkumba and UCU Doves.

By Friday, 21st February 2024, all the full entries will be confirmed ahead of the technical meeting before the schedule of matches shall be drawn.

The first edition was held in 2019, and was won by Gisagara Volleyball Club.

In 2020, 2021 and 2022, the competition was not held due to the global COVID-19 pandemic that paralyzed the entire world.

The championship returned in 2023 with Rwanda National Police (men) and Kenya Pipeline Company (women) winning.

But in 2024, it was not held.

CAVB Zone V Composition:

The CAVB Zone V composes of 12 Countries, Burundi, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.
