Two venues to be used for 3rd edition of Zone V Volleyball Club championship in Uganda

As Uganda gets ready to welcome the 2025 Zone V Volleyball club championships in Kampala city, two venues have been confirmed to host this event.

The Lugogo Indoor Arena and the Old Kampala Sports Arena are the two host venues for the championship that spikes off on Wednesday, 26th February until 4th March 2025.

This was confirmed during an interface of the local organizing committee members with the media on Monday, 17th February 2025 at the Uganda Olympic Committee head offices in Lugogo.

The meeting was graced by the Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) president who is also the CAVB Zone V president Sadik Nasiwu, Joseph Odong (chairperson of the local organizing committee for Zone V championship), Innocent Komakech, a FIVB certified referee (Referee delegate for the championship) and Joseph Collins Ssemanda, the head of marketing.

“The preparations to have a tranquil Zone V Volleyball club championship are in high gear. We have confirmed two venues that will be used (Lugogo Arena and Old Kampala Arena). So far, twenty clubs have confirmed to take part and we shall be closing entries by Friday, 21st February 2025 ahead of the technical committee meeting” Odong, the local organizing committee chairperson stated

Nasiwu promised a successful event and lauded all the participating countries.

He specially appreciated the Government of Uganda (GOU), Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC), Uganda Police, Old Kampala Sports Arena, Pallisa Agro Processing, Jibu Water, NG technologies (ticketing partner) and a number of other stakeholders.

We received bids from Rwanda and Uganda, a decision was made to award it to Uganda. This is a prestigious championship. We want to make it very convenient for all the participating clubs. There will be a cash prize for the top performing teams, medals and trophies. Joseph Odong (chairperson of the local organizing committee), Joseph Will from South Sudan is the president control committee, Ibrahim Bizimana (Tanzania) as the Technical director and Innocent Komakech (Uganda) as the referee delegate.

On-line ticketing will be used for the fans to access the venues with ticket fees at Ug.Shs 10,000 each per venue every day.

Ssemanda, a member on the marketing committee is optimistic that will be in position to make an attractive fans’ zone.

Defending champions:

Rwanda National Police (Men) and Kenya Pipeline Corporation (Women) are the defending Champions of the event, which was hosted by Rwanda in November 2023.

The 3 top teams from the 12 countries all qualify for the championship, with exceptions made to the defending Champions, where 4 teams can make entries.

In 2019, Uganda hosted the All-Africa games qualifiers for women.

The CAVB Zone V composes of 12 Countries, Burundi, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.
