PSG vs Brest predictions

Paris Saint-Germain have been on the wrong end of some historic comebacks in the Champions League in recent years.

After winning the first leg of their last-16 tie with Barcelona 4-0 in 2017, some Parisians were doubtless starting to plot their team’s path to the final.

Instead, PSG were dumped out in extraordinary circumstances. A 6-1 loss at the Camp Nou instantly entered Barcelona folklore and left everyone associated with the French giants shaking their heads in embarrassment.

Were PSG to exit the tournament this week, it would arguably be even more mortifying.

Luis Enrique’s side hold a 3-0 aggregate lead over Brest after their comfortable win in the first leg of this play-off.

A Vitinha penalty and an Ousmane Dembele brace saw PSG ease to victory in Guingamp. They were the better team from start to finish, and although both teams landed 16 shots on the opposition goal, PSG’s attempts were much better opportunities.

“There is a consistency that makes the team better,” said Luis Enrique of his team’s display. “Brest made us suffer. We defended well. Our team is built to attack. We are on a very good run.”

The scoreline was hardly a surprise given PSG had recently beaten Brest 5-2 in Ligue 1 and have amassed 24 more points than them so far this season.

Brest’s league record of 10 wins, two draws and 10 defeats shows they are an all-or-nothing side.

When everything clicks, Eric Roy’s team are a force to be reckoned with. At other times, Brest can be got at. They have conceded 38 goals in Ligue 1, more than any team outside the bottom four.

In the first leg, they were simply outclassed by PSG – and given the financial disparities between the two clubs, there is no great shame in that.

Brest are delighted simply to be here. They exceeded expectations by qualifying for the Champions League in the first place, then went one better by advancing to the play-offs against the odds.

An 18th-place finish in the league phase was a fantastic achievement for a club whose own 15,000-capacity stadium does not meet UEFA’s requirements to host matches at this level.

Barring a miracle, their Champions League adventure will come to an end this week. But what an adventure it has been.

PSG vs Brest betting tips

Can Brest pull off a miraculous comeback against PSG in this Champions League play-off second leg?

PSG to win both halves

Paris Saint-Germain have found form at an excellent time.

A league phase exit looked like a genuine possibility at one stage, but back-to-back victories over Manchester City (4-2) and Stuttgart (4-1) sent the French champions through in style.

In Ligue 1, they have surged clear of the chasing pack in recent weeks. PSG have taken 22 points from the last 24 available, a run which includes victories over their two closest challengers Marseille and Monaco.

As mentioned above, Brest are something of a feast-or-famine team. Roy is not one to shut up shop even against superior opponents.

If he adopts that approach again in the second leg, it will play into PSG’s hands. Luis Enrique’s in-form team can qualify for the last 16 in style.

Both teams to score

Two years ago, when they were on their way to a 14th-place finish in Ligue 1, Brest could not have dreamt of being in this position.

They are almost certainly heading out of the Champions League on Wednesday, but they would rather do so with a bang than a whimper.

Who knows, an early Brest goal could make the Parc des Princes crowd slightly nervous given PSG’s previous collapses.

Either way, Brest have an incentive to commit bodies forward and give PSG something to think about.

Roy’s team scored in both league games against the Parisians in 2024/25 and they can do so again here.

Ousmane Dembele to score any time

Dembele was the two-goal hero in the first leg, continuing his remarkable run of form for PSG.

Previously regarded as a talented but unreliable player whose end product was a mixed bag at best, Dembele suddenly looks like a highly polished finisher.

He has scored 18 goals in his last 11 appearances in all competitions, including five in two games against Brest.

“He was already good last year, but in 2025 he is even better. You can see his team-mates looking for him and finding him. He has an impeccable attitude,” Luis Enrique said after the first leg.

Dembele is in the form of his life and he should get chances to find the back of the net once again against Brest.
