Rwenzori Lions Football Club, a regional club (third tier) has qualified to the round of 16 stage in the 51st edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.
This followed a nerve-cracking 4-3 post match penalty victory over FUFA Big League entity Buhimba United Saints in the round of 32 duel at Rusese Airlines playground in Kasese.
To advance to this stage, Rwenzori Lions had also eliminated another second division side Busoga United 2-1 at the same venue whilst Buhimba United Saints edged non-league side Football Classroom 2-1 at Yes Center in Nsambya, Kampala.
Meanwhile, in Yumbe district, Total Football Club eliminated Uganda Premier League entity Express 1-0 at the Swinga playground.
Express has won the Uganda Cup ten times and their endeavors for a 11th title have fallen short.
In Gayaza, Sports Club Villa advanced to the round of 16 after overcoming a hard fighting Simba 1-0 at Namulonge playground.
Aslam Ssemakula scored the match winner in the 50th minute to ensure qualification.
The round of 32 matches will resume on Thursday, 20th February 2025.
The winner of the Uganda Cup earns a ticket to represent the country in the CAF Champions League.
