The local motorsport governing body FMU and Geoffrey Nsamba have only ten days to resolve a legal dispute that has beligered the sports for over a year now.
The two parties were directed by the Court of Appeal to mediate.
The matter arises from the High Court case that Nsamba instituted in 2023 against the former FMU executive that was then led by Dipu Ruparelia.
Nsamba alleged that the federation had called an illegal assembly which was going to bar him from exercising his right to stand for the federation presidency.
Nsamba also claimed the federation heads had embezzled funds allocated by the government.

The court ruled that the disputed assembly be reconvened in a month’s time. The court also found the President and General Secretary in contempt of court.
The Federation however appealed the High court decision on grounds that the applicant did not have locus standi; alleging that he was not a member to any of FMU clubs as based on his application which stated that he was a former rally driver and a fan.
FMU claimed that accountabilities are only given to members of the federation at an assembly as per the constitution.
Further, the federation stated that the disputed assembly was meant to discuss the process of aligning with the new Sports Act before an elective assembly.
This week, Court of Appeal’s Justice Eva Luswata referred the matter to mediation as a mandate to give an opportunity to parties to settle matters out of court.
A mediation was extended to both the parties to settle matters and report back to the court whether agreeable or non-agreeable before mention of the case.
The parties are expected to furnish court with the mediation report by 19th March.
The Court of Appeal will on 30th March deliberate on the final decision.
