Vipers Sports Club advanced to the round of 16 in the 51st Stanbic Uganda Cup competition.
A well worked out 2-0 home victory over a hard-fighting 10-man Mbarara City was the result that the Venoms worked for in a flood-lit game at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Thursday, 20th February 2025.
Lethal forward Yunus Junior “Manucho” Sentamu and captain Allan “Jolly” Okello were the hero with the all-important goal in the evening.
Sentamu’s 38th minute header broke the resilience of the visitors after a solid display.
Roving left back Derrick Ndahiiro executed an inviting cross that Sentamu optimally utilized to nod past goalkeeper Abdul Kimera.
Sentamu had earlier been denied by the off-side for another would be goal.
Team captain Okello struck home a brilliant free-kick following a foul on himself by Mbarara City skipper Edward Namasa.
Namasa earned a second caution and was sent off to grant the hosts numerical advantage in the closing 10 minutes.
Vipers secure a round of 16 berth, joining holders Kitara who dispatched CATDA 2-1 earlier in the day.
