- Uganda 66-69 Libya
Deng John Geu delivered an impressive performance, scoring 25 points as Uganda fell short in a 66-69 loss to Libya in the FIBA Men’s AfroBasket Qualifiers on Sunday.
In the game, played at Grand Hall in Tripoli, the Silverbacks missed out on victory after failing to manage the final moments effectively.
Costly turnovers proved to be Uganda’s downfall, as they conceded 15 points due to errors many of which were avoidable.
Despite already securing qualification for the final AfroBasket tournament, Uganda aimed for a win to improve its group standing.
The Silverbacks had a slow start, trailing by a point (21-20) at the end of the first quarter.
However, their offensive struggles in the second period saw them limited to just 11 points, resulting in a 44-32 halftime deficit.
Coming out of the break, Uganda significantly improved on defense, reducing the gap to just five points (53-48) by the end of the third quarter.
With two minutes left, Uganda took control of the game but failed to close it out, as careless turnovers handed Libya the victory.
Despite the loss, Uganda advances to the 2025 Men’s AfroBasket tournament that will be hosted in Angola.
