Leeds make the trip to South Yorkshire tonight as odds on favourites for victory at Bramall Lane as they seek to extend their lead at the top of the Championship to five points as they hunt promotion back to the Premier League after two years in the second tier.
Daniel Farke’s side head into tonight’s clash unbeaten in the league since November, a run spanning 15 matches and includes six wins in their last seven, and victories in each of their last four.
The Whites currently hold a four point advantage over third placed Burnley in the Championship standings, giving them the chance to re-extend that gap to seven points with only 12 league games of the season remaining.
Sheffield United also head into tonight’s bout on a four-match winning run, having won seven of their last eight games in the league which leaves them two points behind their opponents this evening, giving them a perfect opportunity to retain their spot at the top of the table for the first time since Boxing Day.
Chris Wilder’s side have struggled slightly in terms of results in front of their home fans in recent weeks, winning only three of their last seven matches at Bramall Lane in all competitions, but wins in their last two should stand them in good stead for tonight’s blockbuster clash.
Leeds have won each of the last three meetings between the two sides, and have also won on their last two visits to Bramall Lane, though Wilder does lead his head-to-head with Farke 4-2 from their seven managerial meetings.
Despite the Blades’ winning streak heading into tonight’s bout they haven’t always appeared convincing in their recent outings, needing a late winner to beat the bottom side Luton in their last game, while Leeds have been looking formidable of late and very much deserve their spot at the top of the tree.
The visitors’ class should sign through tonight, and I’m expecting the Whites to pull five points clear of the rest of the league come full time – I’m expecting a 2-1 away win.
