Man City vs Plymouth predictions
With the top two Premier League positions already looking locked in by Liverpool and Arsenal, Manchester City are in an eight-team fight for the remaining two Champions League places.
So, with a fifth successive Premier League title looking beyond them, the FA Cup is the only trophy Man City can now win this season.
Pep’s team has endured a miserable time in recent months. But the FA Cup has offered them some welcome respite.
Unlike the Champions League (where City drew Real Madrid), the FA Cup draw has been kind to the blue half of Manchester.
City started with a Manchester derby in the third round. No, not against the red of Manchester United, but the red of Salford City.
City made light work of their quieter tier-four neighbours, beating them 8-0 in a one-sided affair at the Etihad.
Things weren’t as simple in the fourth round. City were drawn away to third-tier Leyton Orient. The fixture had that feel of a possible cup upset about it.
City had been smashed 5-1 by Arsenal in the Premier League the previous weekend, and they had a Champions League fixture against Real Madrid just three days away.
The Light Blues went 1-0 down early in the first half. A thunderbolt of a strike from Jamie Donley hit the underside of the bar and bounced in off the unfortunate Stefan Ortega in the City goal.
For the next 40 minutes, a shock looked possible. Then Abdoukodir Khusanov put City level after 56 minutes, with Kevin de Bruyne securing the 2-1 win with 12 minutes to go.
When Plymouth Argyle appointed the 42-year-old Miron Muslic as their new head coach on January 10th, they couldn’t have anticipated the impact the former Cercle Brugge manager would have.
Muslic was himself sacked by the Belgian Pro League club in December, with his team falling way short of the standards set in their successful 2023/24 campaign.
But any fears Muslic couldn’t turn around the fortunes of the Pilgrims were soon banished.
When Wayne Rooney was sacked, Plymouth were rock bottom of the Championship with just 18 points from 23 matches. The club were four points from safety and looking doomed.
Under Muslic, Plymouth has picked up ten points in nine matches. They are now back in the mix and with a chance of staying up.
The big feather in Muslic’s cap came in the FA Cup.
He was in the stands to watch his new team beat Brentford 1-0 in the third round, caretaker manager Kevin Nancekivell took charge that day.
But Muslic was most definitely the man in charge on the day Plymouth beat Liverpool 1-0 in the fourth round. It was quite possibly the best day in the history of Plymouth Argyle – unless they can win again on Saturday.

Despite only one division separating the two teams, they are light years apart on the pitch.
With the match being at the Etihad, it looks set to be a high-scoring win for Pep Guardiola’s team.

Omar Marmoush to score anytime
Erling Haaland returned from injury and scored the only goal in City’s 1-0 win over Spurs on Wednesday. Despite that, we will be surprised to see him start against Plymouth after his layoff.
That should mean another run out up front for City’s January signing, Omar Marmoush. The Egyptian already has a Premier League hat-trick to his name in his short time at the Etihad.
Furthermore, Pep Guardiola knows the best way for him to settle in is to play more matches and score more goals.
City dominate against smaller clubs at the Etihad. It should be no different against Plymouth.
Marmoush is likely to get a lot of chances. He is odds-on to score with most bookmakers, but we’ve found him at better than evens with bet365.

James McAtee to score anytime
James McAtee is another player who Pep gives a run out in matches like this.
The 22-year-old scored a hat-trick in the 8-0 demolition of Salford in the third round.
He didn’t manage to get on the scoresheet against Leyton Orient in the second round, but that was one of those days when things didn’t happen for City.
This should be different. City should dominate and McAtee will see plenty of the ball.
McAtee scored after coming off the bench in the recent 4-0 win over Newcastle United. He is growing in stature and gaining the trust of Guardiola.
This is the ideal match for him to further impress his boss.
