PSG vs Lille predictions

Paris Saint-Germain have been in scintillating form recently, recording eight wins in their last nine Ligue 1 fixtures.

With second placed Marseille suffering a shock 3-0 defeat away at Auxerre on Saturday, PSG increased their lead at the top of Ligue 1 to 13 points with a 3-2 win away at Lyon on Sunday.

PSG now has 59 points from 23 matches and are still unbeaten in Ligue 1 this season. The bookmakers make them 1/500 to win the league for a fourth successive year.

The Parisians’ Matchday 23 win over Lyon last weekend turned out to be a thriller.

After a quiet opening 45 minutes at the Groupama Stadium, Achraf Hakimi gave the visitors the lead after 53 minutes. The in-form Ousmane Dembele quickly doubled PSG’s lead on 59 minutes, and it looked to be game over.

Lyon had other ideas. Rayan Cherki pulled one back for the home team on 83 minutes, triggering a grandstand finish.

Hakimi restored PSG’s two goal advantage two minutes later. But Lyon weren’t finished. Corentin Tolisso scored the home team’s second of the night two minutes into stoppage time, ensuring a nervy end to the match for Paris as they held on for the three points.

Lille have suffered a couple of setbacks in recent weeks, but a 2-1 win over Monaco on Saturday saw les Dogues move above their Champions League chasing rivals into fourth place.

Hakon Arnar Haraldsson scored a first half brace for Lille, with Takumi Minamino pulling one back for Monaco in stoppage time at the end of the first period.

The three points were huge for Bruno Genesio’s team after losing two of their previous four in Ligue 1.

A 2-1 defeat away to Strasbourg on Matchday 19 ended a 14-match unbeaten league run for Lille.

A second 2-1 defeat followed at home to relegation threatened Le Havre on Matchday 21. That loss was only their second defeat at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy this season (the other was against PSG).

Since the loss to the Ligue 1 strugglers, les Dogues have secured a 2-0 win over Rennes on Matchday 22 and the vitally important win over Monaco on Saturday.

Bruno Genesio’s team seem to have overcome those bumps in the road and are in a good place again ahead of their tough clash in Paris.

PSG vs Lille betting tips

PSG face Liverpool in the Champions League in Paris on Wednesday, and Lille travel to Germany to face Dortmund in the Europa League on Tuesday.

Will both teams already have one eye on their huge European nights?

PSG to win and both teams to score

A combination of the Champions League first leg against Liverpool and a 13-point lead at the top of Ligue 1 may result in Luis Enrique rotating his squad for the match against Lille.

Enrique has plenty of points to play with and can afford to take some risks in Saturday’s fixture.

There could well be some needle in this clash. Lyon requested a postponement with their Europa League clash with Dortmund on Tuesday. The league voted against, with PSG one of the teams against the idea.

We see a win for Paris. They have a bigger and stronger squad to rotate. But Lyon will be determined to make a point, and we say they will score.

Over 4.5 cards

We’ve already pointed out that PSG were one of the Ligue 1 teams that voted to reject Lille’s attempts to get this match postponed ahead of their Europa League match on Tuesday.

Could it be that any bad blood spills over onto the pitch?

PSG only picked up one yellow in their 3-2 win over Lyon on Sunday. Lille picked up four in their 2-1 victory over Monaco.

There were also five yellow cards in this match when the two teams played at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy in PSG’s 3-1 win on Matchday 3.

A bet on overs in the cards market looks worth a go in what could become a bit of a grudge match.

Goncalo Ramos to score anytime

Ousmane Dembele has been in great form in recent weeks. He has scored 12 goals in his last eight Ligue 1 matches and six in his last four Champions League fixtures.

He is invaluable, and we feel he may start this one from the bench with the Liverpool match in mind.

Leading the line in place of him is likely to be Goncalo Ramos.

The 23-year-old Portuguese largely plays a supporting role for the team, but he delivers whenever he is called upon by Luis Enrique.

Ramos started against Stade Briochin in the French Cup on Wednesday and scored a hat-trick in a 7-0 win. He looks a good bet to start against Lille and is obviously in good goalscoring form.

If Dembele starts ahead of Ramos, then switch the bet to the Frenchman.
