Eintracht Frankfurt vs Bayer Leverkusen predictions

Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayer Leverkusen will meet on Matchday 24 of the Bundesliga.

Eight points separate the teams at the top of the table. Frankfurt has 42 points from 23 matches, and Leverkusen has 50. Both have struggled to keep pace with leaders Bayern Munich.

Frankfurt’s form has dipped in recent weeks. Die Adler has only lost one of their last eight, but they have also only recorded one Bundesliga win in their previous five.

A run of three draws ended with a 3-1 home win over Holstein Kiel on Matchday 22.

First-half goals from Hugo Larsson and Tuta, along with a 60th-minute strike from Can Uzun saw the Eagles race into a 3-0 lead. Finn Porath pulled one back for Holstein late on, but it had no impact on the match outcome.

That was a short-lived respite for Dino Toppmöller’s team. Next up was Bayern at the Allianz Arena on Matchday 23, where Frankfurt were spanked 4-0 by the league leaders.

Munich dominated the match with 64 per cent of the possession and 19 shots on goal to Frankfurt’s seven. It was never really a contest.

Leverkusen has also had recent experience of taking on the league leaders in the Bundesliga and will do so again in their following match on Wednesday in the Champions League.

Xabi Alonso’s team hosted Bayern at the BayArena on Matchday 22. Die Schwarzroten dominated the league leaders. The Black and Reds had 19 shots on goal to Bayern’s two.

Unfortunately for Alonso’s team, only two shots were on target. And it’s the lack of goals that looks likely to cost them their title.

Leverkusen has only lost one Bundesliga match this season, the same number of defeats as Bayern.

Their problem is they have drawn eight, over a third of their matches.

A draw with Bayern is an acceptable result. The Bavarians are one of the top teams in Europe.

But Leverkusen were held to a 0-0 draw away to Wolfsburg seven days before the Bayern match, which was also their second successive stalemate on the road.

Bayern wins these sorts of matches. And that seems to be the main difference between the teams and what will settle the Bundesliga title race this season.

In their most recent outing on Saturday, Leverkusen ended their two-match run without a win or a goal by beating Holstein Kiel 2-0 on the road.

Frankfurt vs Leverkusen betting tips

After dropping points in their last two away matches, Leverkusen badly needs to win as they cling to Bayern’s coattails at the top. Frankfurt can close to within five points of Leverkusen with a victory:

Leverkusen to win or draw and BTTS

It’s difficult to see Xabi Alonso’s team losing this.

They may well already have one eye on Wednesday’s Round of 16 Champions League showdown with Bayern, but as a well organised team that dominates the possession, the Black and Red should be too strong for the out-of-form hosts.

But, Frankfurt has only lost one match at home this season.

It wasn’t to Bayern, they drew 3-3 with the league leaders on Matchday 6. Frankfurt’s only home loss was a shock 3-1 defeat to Mainz on Matchday 15. Their record is won seven, drawn three and lost only one.

Leverkusen are 1/5 to win or draw in the double chance market. That’s way too short. Throw in both teams to score with Tote, and the bet pays even money.

Florian Wirtz to score or assist

Florian Wirtz has nine goals and 11 assists in 23 Bundesliga matches this season.

The German international has the most assists in the Bundesliga and is also the second highest scorer at his club, behind only Patrik Schick and ahead of striker Victor Boniface.

Wirtz has two goals and four assists in his last six Bundesliga matches. This includes the two 0-0 draws against Wolfsburg and Bayern.

The 21-year-old ended his barren run with an assist in last weekend’s 2-0 win over Holstein Kiel. When Leverkusen is scoring goals, Wirtz seems to be involved.

Patrik Schick to score anytime

Patrik Schick has 15 goals in 20 Bundesliga appearances this season.

He has six in eight since the Bundesliga returned after the winter break, even though he rarely completes 90 minutes for the team.

Alonso limited Schick to 14 minutes of the 0-0 draw with Wolfsburg and just one minute from the bench in the 0-0 draw with Munich.

Schick returned to the starting XI against Holstein Kiel last Saturday and immediately rewarded his manager with a goal after 9 minutes.

When Schick plays, he seems to score. And with Leverkusen needing the win, can Alonso really afford to risk leaving his top scorer on the bench again?
