Zone V Championship | Semifinals
- Sport-S 2-3 Police
- (22-25, 26-24, 22-25, 30-28, 7-15)
Sports Volleyball Club will have to play for third place at the Zone V Championship following a 3-2 defeat to Rwanda Police in the semifinals.
The only surviving Uganda men’s side in the tournament competed in the opening set matching Police pound for pound until the Rwandan side opened a 3-point gap (22-19)
Sport-S net defence improved in the second set coming from 9-11 down to lead 14-13. The side, however, lost points from the service box that gave Police the edge.
It was a closely contested third set as both sides went toe to toe with Kathbert Malinga, leading the attack for Sport-S. However, the defending champions took the set.
Sport-S dug deep to level the game and force a fifth set. They started slow going down by five (2-7) but fought to match up 18-all before the Duke Komukama show that sealed the set.
Sport-S ran out of steam, where it mattered most as Police cruised to a victory in front of a loud crowd.
The second semifinal will be a Rwandese derby as APR locks horns with REG in a highly anticipated clash.
