Cristian Romero appeared to hit out Tottenham on social media before quickly deleting a post he reshared.

The Argentine defender was part of the Spurs side who took on Arsenal on Sunday’s north London derby – a match that they lost 1-0.

As well as allowing the Gunners to make Premier League history, the defeat led tension on social media.

An Argentine journalist called Gaston Edul took to X to state that Tottenham handed Arsenal an advantage by allowing Romero and their other stars to return from international duty independently.

National federations are responsible for arranging travel for their players to and from international duty, however some clubs offer private travel solutions in order for their players to return home more promptly and comfortably.

Romero had been away with Argentina for their World Cup qualifiers with Chile and Colombia before returning to London for the derby defeat.

Translated by Google from Spanish to English, Edul posted: “Tottenham lost to Arsenal again.

“It does not end up consolidating itself to fight because it is not in the details.

“It was the only Premier League club that brought back its players from their own national team on its own and without its own logistics, as decided by its leaders.

“It gave it an advantage because its players arrived with less rest than the rest: Cuti Romero played with a feverish squad.”

That post was reposted by the Tottenham and Argentina defender, before being promptly deleted, however it’s unclear whether the repost was intentional.

Romero was beaten in the air from a set piece by Gabriel Magalhaes as Arsenal secured a 1-0 win.

Tottenham have a poor record at defending set pieces with Ange Postecoglou failing to appoint a set piece coach since arriving from Celtic last summer.

Postecoglou said: “I know, for some reason people think I don’t care about set-pieces and it’s a narrative that you can keep going on for ages and ages. I understand that.

“Like I said, we work on them all the time like we do for every other team. You know that they’re a threat.

“For the most part, we handled them really well today, but we switched off for one and we paid a price. You learn from that and you move on.”

Postecoglou was adamant in a spiky press conference that Tottenham would win a trophy this season, with the Carabao Cup their first opportunity to do so.

Tottenham are next in action against Coventry City in the third round of the competition on Wednesday night – a clash that is live on talkSPORT 2.
