Aston Villa go into tomorrow’s game off the back of a fairly comfortable 2-0 win against Cardiff in the FA Cup at Villa Park last Friday, where Marco Asensio scored a brace to continue his impressive form since joining the Villans in January. 

Unai Emery’s side’s recent away form hasn’t made for pretty reading for their fans, with nine loses in their last 12 fixtures away from home including a 1-0 defeat to tomorrow’s opponents in the group stage of the Champions League earlier this season. 

Club Brugge’s form hasn’t been any more impressive, with only three wins in their last 10 fixtures, though the Belgian side can be encouraged by the fact that despite the poor form they have only lost once at home in all competitions since September. 

Aston Villa surprised many when they qualified automatically to the round of 16 after an impressive group stage campaign, a vast contrast to their opponents, who only just made it through to the Champions League round of 32, finishing in the competition’s final qualifying position. 

However, the Club did show their spot was merited winning 2-1 and 3-1 both home and away to an impressive Atalanta side in the knockout stage play-off.

The face-off between the two teams earlier this season was the only occasion the sides have met in a competitive game, Aston Villa will be hoping history doesn’t repeat itself as to not give themselves an uphill battle going into the second leg.
