“Everyone who expects Vipers to lift the trophy on the end of the season should think. Is it realistic picture or not? 29 games to go, we can win the trophy, we can win two trophies but also can relegate to first division,”
“The realistic target of the management is to win the league and also play finals of the CAF Champions League next season but my target is to finish in the top three and play CAF through winning the cup.” These were comments Vipers SC head coach Nikola Kavazovic made after the 3-1 defeat to NEC FC on Sunday.
If the Serbian coach meant what he said after his first league game in charge at Vipers, then his days at the club are as good as numbered.
For Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa, the Vipers SC President who is passionate about achieving and excelling as a bare minimum, settling for less is not an option.
In the past, we have seen coaches win trophies at the club but still shown the exit door. For instance, Alex Isabirye guided the Venoms to their first ever domestic double but parted ways with the club shortly after.
To be exact, Vipers SC has had coaches in the last eight years before Kavazovic was hired.
For some like Michael Nam Ouma, Beto Bianchi and Livingstone Mbabazi lasted a few months and were sacked.
Besides the result, the performance against NEC FC was below standard and the coach will need make big improvements in the next outings.
