Birmingham City co-owner Tom Brady got a hostile reception from Wrexham fans ahead of their clash but took it like champion.
The NFL legend, an investor in League One club Birmingham, was in attendance at St Andrew’s for their match against the Welsh side.
Brady was in attendance with the stars, including David Beckham, but the reception he received from the Wrexham fans wasn’t so glamorousGetty
He may be one of the most successful athletes of all time, but his reputation didn’t matter a bit to the travelling Wrexham fans as they subjected him to an abusive chant.
In a video posted on social media, the Wrexham fans can be heard chanting: “Who the f***, who the f***, who the f****** hell are you?” as he walked past where they were housed in the stadium.
Having only purchased his 3.3 per cent stake in Birmingham in August 2023, Brady may not be so au fait with the tribal nature of football fans in the UK.
But credit to Brady, he took the jeering from the Wrexham supporters in his stride as he let out a smile and thumbs up to those involved.
And he had the last laugh with Birmingham claiming victory over the Dragons.
Wrexham took the lead early on when Jack Marriott fired in from close range after Birmingham failed to clear a corner.
Blues hit back on 22 minutes through Jay Stansfield’s close-range finish after Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo spilled an effort from distance into the £15million forward’s path.
Stansfield then turned the game on its head on 52 minutes with his and Birmingham’s second goal of the game as he caressed a cross from the left past Okonkwo.
And it was 3-1 just shy of the hour through a stunning left-footed strike from distance by Tomoki Itawa.
Krystian Bielik did see red for the Blues late on, for a second bookable offence, but the visitors could not captialise.
Wrexham was a pretty good sport when being jeered at
And that left Brady with the bragging rights.
Wrexham, co-owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, remain top but Birmingham are now level on points with them in second.
Birmingham vs Wrexham is set to be a huge rivalry in the battle for promotion to the Championship.
And there was plenty of needle being exchanged between both clubs in the run-up to the match.
Eli Manning, a long-time rival of Brady, was seen posing with a Wrexham home shirt – something which didn’t impress the seven-time Super Bowl winner.
“Yeah, that was BS,” Brady told talkSPORT when asked about Manning wearing the Wrexham shirt.
“I didn’t like that one bit, but that’s okay. He’s been my kryptonite in some big games.
“But you know what? I feel like I’ve been a part of a lot of Monday night football in America. Monday night football in the UK. If you love football and you love competition, this is the place you want to be.”
