The former NFL star decided to pull a prank on his Nightcap co-host Shanon Sharpe.
Cameras began rolling with Ochocinco not in his seat, leaving Sharpe quietly seething as his colleague has a reputation for turning up late on their podcast.
First Take star Molly Qerim told viewers that Ochocinco’s supposed lateness was not his fault.
“Chad Ochocinco will be here shortly, Ocho had some issues, the Uber took him to the wrong place,” she said.
As Sharpe was shaking his head, Kendrick Perkins said, “He needs to be on time; he’s got more excuses than a brother going to jail.”
The prank ended as Ochocinco strolled onto set and Qerim told Sharpe that it was all staged.
The NFL Hall of Famer did not crack a smile the entire time the joke was unfolding and admitted he was furious, before grinning toward the end of the segment.
Fans enjoyed the hilarious exchange.
“I aint gonna lie, i even cringed when i heard molly say that. and lookin at shannon face; im like oh damn no more daycap and nightcap lmfaooooo @ochocinco u wildddd boy lmfaooo,” one wrote on X.
“Shannon Sharpe is the most disciplined man I’ve ever seen. The man doesn’t fool around with his business,” another fan added.

This is the second time Ochocinco has gone viral for his antics on First Take.
During his first appearance on Monday, he got off to a brilliant start when discussing top NFL prospect Travis Hunter‘s comments.
The future NFL draftee claimed that playing both sides in the NFL is harder than MLB star Shohei Ohtani hitting and pitching.
“The two most difficult things in life are hitting a baseball and keeping a woman happy long term,” Ochocinco joked as he shut down Hunter’s claim.
Legendary Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ochocinco is a well-known figure in media thanks to appearing on Nightcap alongside Sharpe.
Since Sharpe regularly appears on First Take, the potential is there for his close friend to appear on the ESPN program more frequently.
Ochocinco has had a strong debut and will likely be in line for guest appearances.
A flurry of comments on social media called for him to become a First Take regular.
“Shannon bringing the heat with a side of Chad and a sprinkle of Stephen’s vibes,” one fan posted on X.
“Now that’s how you step out @ochocinco! He popped out and showed,” another fan added.
“He looked great, sounded even better,” another fan wrote on X.
