Naomi Osaka was honest about her shortcomings after her defeat

Osaka, who was playing her first match since retiring injured from the Australian Open, was scathing of her own performance on social media.

“Worst match I’ve ever played in my life. Wow, I’m so sorry to everyone who watched that,” the 27-year-old posted on Threads.

During her post-match press conference, the Japanese star further opened up on what went wrong.

“There were certain things that felt extremely off because I could only start to practice serving after a certain amount of time,” she said.

“I think given the situation, it wasn’t that terrible, it just feels like a little bump in the road.”

For Osorio, this was her first ever win at Indian Wells and it also created history.

The 23-year-old became the first Colombian woman on the WTA tour to defeat a former world No. 1.

Reaching the second-round was never going to be easy for Osaka, especially given her injuries.

This was just her third event of the season after an abdominal issue saw her withdraw from the Auckland final and the third round of the Australian Open earlier this year.

Her exit felt inevitable right from the beginning of the match as she had to defend two break points in her second service game.

Naomi Osaka will next be in action at the Miami Open

While Osaka would end up holding the set to 4-4, multiple errors quickly saw Osorio break the world No.56 and take the set 6-4.

The Colombian was left stunned after her win and could not contain her excitement in her on-court post-match interview.

“First of all, good evening everyone, I’m Camila Osorio,” she said to the Stadium 1 crowd.

“I really wanted to play on this court. I was excited and looking forward to playing a champion like Naomi, I can’t believe I won.”

Osorio now will face Denmark’s Clara Tauson in the second round.

Osaka will now quickly focus on preparing for the Miami Open, which begins on March 16.
