Bayern Munich have dropped points in the Bundesliga title race with a shock home defeat to VfL Bochum.

The German top flight leaders were beaten 3-2 at the Allianz Arena on Saturday despite securing a two-goal lead within 28 minutes.

Raphael Guerreiro netted both goals for the hosts before Bochum hit back just after the half hour mark through Jakov Medic.

Bayern went down to ten men before half-time when Joao Palhinha was shown a straight red card for a strong challenge.

And their opponents completed the turnaround in the second half with goals from Ibrahima Sissoko and Matus Bero.

Harry Kane started as a substitute for Bayern and was brought on with 62 minutes played but couldn’t make an impact for his side.

The England captain is the Bundesliga top scorer on 21 goals and his omission from the starting XI appeared to be costly.

Kane scored two goals against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League this week but is now goalless in four league outings.

Although they lost, Bayern saw their title rivals Leverkusen fall to a 2-0 defeat at home to Werder Bremen.

It keeps Vincent Kompany’s side eight points clear of them at the top of the table with nine games left to play.

Bochum on the other hand have been given a huge survival boost with fifth league victory of the season.

The victory was their first in Munich for 34 years and has steered them three points clear of the bottom two.

Bayern remain firm favourites to win the Bundesliga title having lost out to Leverkusen last season.

Union Berlin are their final league opponents before the international break, with St Pauli next in the schedule upon their return.

Augsburg and long-term rivals Borussia Dortmund follow as they reach the season run-in, with RB Leipzig also an upcoming test.

Bayern will win the German title for the 34th time in their history if they finish top at the end of the campaign.

It would also be the first major honour of Kane’s career having missed out on silverware on various occasions prior to his move.
