Shannon Sharpe has met a lot of celebrities over the years — but none of them made an impression like Michael Jordan.
The Hall of Fame tight end won the Super Bowl three times in a 13-year NFL career.

But despite all the football icons he rubbed shoulders with, it was the NBA superstar who left him speechless.
Sharpe is a huge basketball fan and when a fan of his Nightcap podcast asked when he first felt starstruck, he recalled his first encounter with MJ.
“In 93, the Super Bowl was in Atlanta, I got on the elevator… the door open up, (it’s) Michael Jordan and his first wife on the elevator,” Sharpe told co-host Chad ‘Ochocinco’ Johnson.
“I get on the elevator and all of a sudden it’s bright. It’s like he’s glowing.”
Jordan told Sharpe that he had met his mother at a casino and the brief meeting was over.
“I met Denzel (Washington), his son John David used to train with my trainer when he was in Morehouse,” Sharpe continued.
“Met Samuel Jackson met Oprah in the Four Seasons. David Beckham, Victoria Beckham… Ocho this man doesn’t seem real.
“He’s the only man that I’ve ever met, he seems mythical. I know that’s Michael Jordan, I’m looking at him, that’s a man.
“Man, he levitates and anybody that has ever met him, from Shaquille O’Neal to everybody say the exact same thing, ‘He doesn’t seem real.’”
At this time, Jordan had only won two of six rings and was about to add a third.

The tight end enjoyed plenty of success on the gridiron[/caption]
Sharpe was already a star in the NFL despite not having any titles of his own but knew he was in the presence of greatness.
His passionate delivery was brilliantly contrasted by Ocho, who told a more down-to-earth story about the first and only time he spoke to Jordan.
“Met him at a golf tournament, I didn’t say much, he was smoking a cigar, walked back shook his hand, ‘It’s a pleasure, I kept it moving,’” he said bluntly.
On his own starstruck moment, Ocho went to another sport entirely and picked soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo, who he met through his relationship with Nike.
Sharpe maintains that LeBron James is the GOAT over MJ.
King James has also spoken about meeting the man he is perenially compared to and levitation seems to be a theme.
“I loved Michael Jordan. The way that he approached the game, the way that he led his troops when he went out on the court, and his never say die attitude, man, was something I always looked up to,” he told David Letterman on The Late Show in 2006.
“So I’m growing up watching this guy on TV every day and I’m like, ‘Wow, he’s an amazing basketball player, hopefully someday I get an opportunity to meet him.’
“I think it was my junior year in high school. I go up to Chicago and I go to a gym called Hoops, where he plays basketball in the summertime.
“I didn’t know he was gonna be there, but I seen him. I seen him walking towards me and it was kind of like he was walking on air.
“I had to pinch myself and (was like) ‘Is that Michael?’ And he was like black Jesus to me. I was like, ‘Are you finally here?’”
They don’t call him His Airness for nothing.
