‘Do you do any research?’ – Jason Cundy clashes with Liverpool fan after stark warning to ‘lucky’ Reds

Jason Cundy got into an argument with a Liverpool fan live on air when the talkSPORT host claimed they were lucky to beat Southampton.

Arne Slot’s side came from behind on Saturday and scored all three of their goals in the second half to increase their league lead to 16 points.

But Liverpool’s first-half performance became the subject of Jason Cundy and Jamie O’Hara’s conversation.

The former Chelsea player drew similarities to Liverpool’s performance against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday which saw them nick a late 1-0 win despite being peppered with 27 shots.

He was adamant another display like their last two matches will end in Liverpool’s exit out of the Champions League.

Cundy told talkSPORT: “I think one of our favourite sides to watch was under Klopp. The energy, just the power, that rock and roll football that he had. Slot’s taken that away, he’s made them defensively more solid.

“Yet they lose that little bit of that energy, that bite, that overrunning teams. But he’s getting results and that’s all that matters.

“No one’s gonna care. No Liverpool fan’s gonna care. But there will be a moment for Liverpool, and it won’t happen in the league because the league’s cooked, in the Champions League.

“If they play like that, all it takes is a bad half or a bad 45 minutes or a bad hour and your Champions League can be over.”

Paul then called into talkSPORT and said: “I always try not to come on but I’ve just listened to Jason’s nonsense and he just keeps going.

“Do you do any research before you speak nonsense? I’d say we were unlucky in the first half. Today we had 28 shots and we had an xG of nearly four and a half. That’s not lucky is it?”

Cundy replied: “Can I remind you Southampton is the worst side in the Premier League this season. Nine points they’ve got. They were 1-0 up at half time.

“It’s lucky that you played Southampton. You’re lucky you played the worst side and possibly right now on course to be the worst side ever in Premier League history.”

The caller then questioned Cundy whether Liverpool’s 1-0 win against PSG on Wednesday was lucky.

“You were poor,” replied Cundy. “You got lucky as your goalkeeper had the game of his life.”

In which Paul rhetorically asked: “Is a goalkeeper paid to make saves?”

“I’ll tell you what you don’t want,” said Cundy. “You don’t want the same performance from PSG and the same performance from your boys in midweek because if that happens it will eventually catch up with you.”

In frustration, they replied: “What’s going to catch up with us? What does that look like?”

Cundy inferred that Liverpool did have luck on their side as Ibrahima Konate avoided a red card after a VAR check on his push of PSG’s Bradley Barcola.

Paul accused Cundy of ‘poking holes all season’ despite Liverpool being the favourites to lift their second Premier League title in Slot’s maiden season.

The excitement continues in Merseyside as Liverpool host PSG at Anfield for the second leg of their round of 16 tie.

The Champions League is a competition Liverpool will fancy themselves in as they finished top of the group stage, only losing one game.

After, they are set to play Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday with three trophies still possible for Arne Slot.
