Josh Allen is still the second-best quarterback in Buffalo Bills history.

And Allen, the reigning NFL MVP and recipient of a new record contract, is still second to Patrick Mahomes when it matters.

Other than that, the big kid from small-town Firebaugh, California now has everything in the world after barely being recruited out of high school and proving a legion of critics wrong.

“The Bills have reached agreement on a new deal with MVP QB Josh Allen that will keep him in Buffalo through 2030,” the team’s PR account tweeted on Sunday night.

Allen’s massive six-year, $330 million extension sent shockwaves through the NFL, turning Myles Garret’s $160m sell-out to stay with the failing Cleveland Browns into an afterthought.

Allen was instantly guaranteed $250m, trumping the absurd $230m that the Browns had previously promised Deshaun Watson.

Only Dak Prescott ($60m) holds a higher average annual value contract that Allen ($55m).

“Worth every penny!” one fan tweeted. “Go Bills!”

“My king isn’t going anywhere,” a second fan posted.

“One heck of a wedding present!” a third fan wrote. “Well earned!”

Throw in a flashy engagement to Hailee Steinfeld and the fact that voters chose Allen over Lamar Jackson as the 2024 regular-season MVP, and the once-overlooked wild card from Wyoming is undoubtedly living his best life in 2025.

Except for a couple huge things that $330 million can’t buy.

Allen is very, very good in NFL terms.

But, thus far, he’s not been close to great.

The 28-year-old QB is a superb 76-34 in the regular season.

In the playoffs, Allen is 7-6 and has never been past the AFC Championship.

Most importantly, he’s 0-4 against Andy Reid, Travis Kelce, Mahomes and Kansas City in the playoffs.

In athletic terms, that makes the Chiefs Allen’s ‘daddy,’ and his entire career is being defined by a rival AFC team that he hasn’t been able to beat when it matters.

“You can either get it done or you can’t. And we didn’t get it done,” said Allen, after his Bills fell to Mahomes’ Chiefs 32-29 in the recent AFC Championship.

Kansas City advanced to play in its fifth Super Bowl in six seasons.

Allen soon enjoyed a personal career peak by receiving four more first-place MVP votes than Jackson.

But Buffalo, the Bills Mafia and the No. 7 overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft surely would have traded that individual trophy for the first Super Bowl triumph in franchise history.

“(The Chiefs have) won two Super Bowls, been to seven straight AFC Championship Games. That’s no excuse,” Bills coach Sean McDermott said.

“We’ve got to keep working to get over that hump, there is no doubt about it. … This is obviously a challenge for us. We’ll figure it out.”

Jim Kelly never won an MVP.

But the Bills QB legend took Buffalo to four consecutive Super Bowls, losing each one but forever cementing his name in team history.

With $250m guaranteed and a contractual tie to Buffalo through 2030, there’s a very good chance that Allen never plays a down for another NFL team.

He will soon surpass Kelly statistically.

He already has more money than any human being needs.

But Allen is 0-0 in the Super Bowl during an AFC era defined by a Chiefs dynasty.

He’s also winless vs Mahomes in the biggest games of Allen’s career.

Rising from Firebaugh and Wyoming to the most guaranteed cash in NFL history is an unbelievable accomplishment.

Allen woke up on Monday a whole lot richer – and still waiting for another shot to beat Mahomes when it matters.

No one in the NFL needs a Super Bowl trophy in 2025 more than Buffalo’s new $330 million QB.
