Leeds v Millwall prediction
Leeds’ seventeen game unbeaten run in the Championship came to an end on Wednesday. The Whites were beaten 1-0 by Portsmouth at Fratton Park, with a goal from Portsmouth forward Colby Bishop enough to secure the upset victory.
The loss puts Leeds in a much less comfortable position than they were the week prior. As victories from both of their promotion rivals now sees the Whites level on points with Sheffield United at the top of the Championship, but only two points above Burnley in third.
As for their visitors, Millwall bounced back from defeat against Bristol City last Tuesday to beat Watford 2-1 at Vicarage Road. Despite going a goal behind, goals from Casper De Norre and Josh Coburn were enough to see Millwall secure their 12th win of the season.
That victory is Milwall’s fifth in nine games away from home since head coach Alex Neil took charge at the end of the year, and keeps the Lions faint playoff hopes alive despite still sitting seven points below West Brom in sixth.
Leeds have the best home record in the Championship, having won 13 of their last 15 home games whilst conceding only five goals in the same time frame, and come up against a Millwall side struggling for goals, with only Derby and Luton Town, who both sit in the relegation zone, scoring less.
However, Millwall seem to be a bogey side for Leeds this season, having already beat them 1-0 in the reverse fixture in November, and then knocking them out of the FA Cup with a 2-0 win at Elland Road last month. I can see Millwall causing Leeds issues once again, but The Whites may just have too much for them this time around with a hard-fought 1-0 home win the most likely outcome.
Leeds v Millwall betting tips
No player in the Championship has scored more goals than Leeds’ Joel Piroe. The Dutch forward has scored 15 goals in the league this season, already bettering his tally of 13 league goals last year, with five in his last seven.
The last three fixtures between these two teams have provided two or less goals on each occasion. With two of the top six defences in the Championship going head-to-head goals will continue to be hard to come by.
