Arsenal travel to Spain ahead of the first leg of their Champions League quarter final having got back to winning ways on the weekend with a 3-1 win over Everton following their surprise FA Cup exit at the hands of Liverpool a week prior.
The weekend’s WSL action means that victory for Renee Slegers’ side at Walton Hall Park on Friday night saw them climb up to second in the table ahead of Manchester United, whom they now lead on goal difference and eight points off the top of the table.
The Gunners, who have won four of their last five games in all competitions, sealed their place in the last eight of the Champions League after finishing top of Group C with five wins from their six matches against Bayern Munich, Juventus and Valerenga.
Real Madrid prepare for just their second ever Champions League quarter final, and their first in for three years, having won only one of their last four matches in all competitions after being held to a 2-2 draw at home against Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday morning.
The draw came after a humbling 8-1 aggregate defeat to Barcelona in the Copa de la Reina, and leaves them seven points behind their El Clasico rivals as they chase a first ever Liga F title.
The Spanish side have never played against Arsenal before in a competitive match, but have a less than impressive record against English sides in the bast, winless in their last six games against Women’s Super League opposition, including defeats in their last three.
