Northern Ireland will be looking to continue their strong run of form from earlier in the season which saw them secure promotion from Nations League C with just one defeat from their last seven of the calendar year.
Michael O’Neill’s will play four friendlies between now and the end of the season in preparation for their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, which begins in September with a trip to Luxembourg as they aim to reach the competition for the first time since 1986.
The Green and White Army have been drawn into Group A of UEFA’s World Cup qualification process alongside Slovakia, Luxembourg and the winner the Nations League quarter final between Germany and Italy.
Switzerland make the trip to Belfast looking to end their seven match winless run stretching back to their Euro 2024 quarter final defeat to England and including their entire Nations League campaign from earlier in the season which saw them pick up just two points from six matches and ultimately caused them relegation to League B.
Four defeats in six matches leaves Murat Yakin’s side out of form and confidence ahead of their first of four friendlies between now and June in preparation for the start of their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, which sees them in a group with Kosovo, Slovenia and Denmark.
The Swiss are unbeaten in their last five matches against Northern Ireland though, without defeat against Friday night’s opponents since 1998.
The last time the two sides met came in qualification for the last World Cup in Qatar, with the sides drawing 0-0 in Belfast in September 2021 before Switzerland ran out 2-0 winners in Geneva a month later.
