The man that wears a thousand hats.

Michael Strahan is known these days for what he’s done off the field with a microphone in his hand.

He is a host on Good Morning America, and can be found during the football season on Fox’s NFL Sunday.

It is easy to forget the fact that he is also a Pro Football Hall of Famer and New York Giants legend.

Again, the man that wears a thousand hats.

And one of those, the most important one, is being a father.

Two years ago, Strahan’s daughter, Isabella, was diagnosed with a medulloblastoma, a type of malignant tumor, in her cerebellum, right at the start of her freshman year at USC.

She underwent three surgeries, weeks and weeks of radiation, and four rounds of chemotherapy.

Isabella started a YouTube series to document her journey and to inspire others who were going through similar and challenging circumstances.

Over a year later, Isabella announced that she was cancer-free last fall.

In an interview with Town & Country Magazine, the father-daughter duo reflected on everything that transpired over the difficult journey and the perspective they gained.

“I feel like I’ve grown in many ways,” the younger Strahan said.

“I’m super-grateful for walking and talking again. You don’t think of the things you can do until you live without them.”

The father saw what his daughter was going through, and all of a sudden his busy life had slowed down.

“It was definitely tough and painful to watch that,” Strahan said.

“It was like, ‘How soon is it going to come back?’

“It was painful for her to get out of bed and move and do those things that are completely necessary for her to do.

“As a parent, to see that was unsettling at times. But throughout this entire journey, Isabella has inspired and helped us all by how she has approached what she was facing.

“She has worked so hard, and with such amazing spirit. And she is still on a journey with her vision, balance, and getting her weight back.”

The 53-year-old pulled back the curtain a bit and talked about his future and possible retirement.

After the whirlwind he and his family had been on, it would be understandable if Strahan wanted to scale back.

In true Strahan fashion, he said he isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

“I’ve always had those thoughts,” Strahan said.

“It will happen at some point. It’s not happening anytime soon.

“The kids are still in school. I’m empty-nesting again. I have loved having the energy and noise and arguing around the house, but I’m just so happy for Isabella to get back to college.

“I want her to have that sense of independence again, because my kids can’t grow if they’re under my shade.

“I’m not planning on retiring anytime soon.

“I will at some point, and I’d like to say a lot sooner than a lot of people probably think I will.

“When I do it, it will be because I just want to have the freedom to be with her and her sister, and her other sister and brother.

“Wherever they are, whatever they’re doing, I want to be there.”

The man that wears a thousand hats, is going to continue juggling all his responsibilities and jobs, but when it comes to fatherhood and being around his kids again, he’ll be ready to leave the microphone behind.
