There are few names as synonymous with sports betting in the UK as William Hill.
The iconic British brand has been around in one form or another since all the way back in 1934, and it has conquered almost every betting vertical available since then.
I saw the company first go online in 1998. Since then, it has constantly adapted to maintain its position as one of the best betting companies in the UK, if not the world. In my William Hill online review, I’m going to take a look at everything the operator offers, from their range of sports to their welcome bonus, and much more.
William Hill UK quick facts
- Founded in 1934.
- Owned and operated by 888 Holdings.
- UK-based with operations around the world.
- The company was originally founded as a postal/telephone betting service.
- Launched its online betting service in 1998, making it one of the oldest online betting services in the UK.

William Hill UK welcome bonus for sports (3/5)
I’ve always appreciated that William Hill likes to get its customers settled in. When I signed up, the site automatically applied the code R30 to my registration process. This allowed me to get a £30 bonus when I bet an initial £10.
The £30 bonus is awarded as three £10 free bets. These will be credited to the player’s account after the original bet has been settled. Players must wager their £10 on a bet with odds of 1/2 or higher. The bonus is not available for those that deposit using PayPal in the UK. 18+ Only | T&C apply
I strongly suggest that players read through all of the terms & conditions for the promotion thoroughly before claiming.
Other William Hill promotions
William Hill is one of the best operators when it comes to promotions. The site regularly updates its offers, often to tie in with big sporting events. I found some common promotions for existing customers and features available, including the following:
- Scratch of the Day
- Free or 4 Prediction game
- Acca Freedom
- Bet Boost
- Bonus Drop
- Build Your Odds Freedom
Many of the promotions at William Hill are designed to give players a sense of freedom over the way that their bets are placed.
How to create an account at William Hill UK (5/5)
Getting started at William Hill is one of the easiest account creation experiences I have had. The site let me register in just a few short steps, and the verification process is kept nice and easy.
- Go to the William Hill website.
- Click the yellow ‘Join’ button in the top right-hand corner of the page.
- You will then need to fill in an online form. You will need to enter your name, date of birth, mobile number, e-mail address, and address.
- Click continue and go to the second page.
- You will need to enter your username and chosen password as well as your personal information.
- Following this, you will need to verify your e-mail address to complete your registration.
- William Hill will automatically apply any welcome bonus codes.

William Hill app (5/5)
I could download William Hill’s app for free on both Google Play and the Apple App Store, and it provided me with a really user-friendly and convenient experience. The app offers all of the same markets as the website and mobile site, so I was all set for easy betting.
Everything I needed was conveniently located at the bottom of the app in a control centre. Clicking on the menu option will bring up the promotions options as well as the A-Z sports markets. I could also access my bet slip and previous bets at the bottom of the screen.
When I wanted a break from the world of sports betting, I could also access the William Hill Vegas games and the Roulette section at the bottom of the site. In short, William Hill has one of the best betting apps I could’ve tried and ensures a top-quality experience.
William Hill sports betting markets
The list of sports betting markets available at William Hill is extensive. The operator currently offers 36 different sports markets in the UK, and this number is constantly growing.
Unsurprisingly, football is the most popular sport on the site. Punters can bet on a range of different divisions and markets from around the world. There is everything from the English Premier League to the Kuwait Federation Cup and everything in between. There are also extensive proposition bets and more available in each one. Yes, William Hill is undoubtedly one of the best football betting sites in the UK.
Those who enjoy something a little bit different will find the political and TV sections here to be very in-depth. The eSports and Virtual World sections are also continuing to grow.

Sports live streaming at William Hill
Live streaming sports at William Hill allows you to keep up to speed with any ongoing bets you might have. The easiest way to do this is to head to the in-play section and move the tag marked for live streaming. This will then present you with a list of ongoing events that have live streams available.
Alternatively, you can look through the sports betting options and find any that have a little television icon next to them. Of course, not all events will be available to live stream but William Hill does tend to have a much stronger selection than a lot of other live betting sites.
Deposit and withdrawal options at William Hill (4/5)
There is so much available to bet on at William Hill, but it wouldn’t be much use if you couldn’t get your funds in and out of your account quickly. Thankfully, the operator offers a good selection of different payment methods to make the process as easy as possible. Players can also take advantage of the £5 minimum deposit.
Deposit methods and time frames
Clicking on the yellow deposit button in the top right-hand corner of the page will present players with the following deposit options:
- Visa/Mastercard
- PayPal
- paysafecard
- Neosurf
All of the deposit methods are instant, so the choice is really going to come down to personal preference. The minimum amount you can deposit with a debit card is £5, while the rest is £10. The maximum amount with each method is £999. There are no fees attached.
Players in the UK should be aware that they cannot deposit funds at any online casino using a credit card.
Withdrawal methods and time frames
If you’ve been lucky enough to land a win at William Hill, you will want to withdraw your funds. You can do this using the following methods:
- Visa/Mastercard
- PayPal
- Bank transfer
There are some variations in terms of limits and withdrawal speed. Using a Visa/Mastercard will allow you to make a withdrawal as low as £5, while PayPal is £10 and a bank transfer is £25.
PayPal is the fastest withdrawal method, with the funds appearing in your account on the same day. Using a debit card will see the funds in your bank account within 1-3 working days, and a Bank Transfer will take 3-5 days.
William Hill UK customer support (3/5)
If you find yourself in a spot of bother when betting at William Hill, then you can always reach out to their customer support team. There are currently two ways you can do that:
- Live-chat
- X (Twitter)
The customer support options at William Hill are surprisingly limited. While both of these options are available 24/7, some players may still prefer to be able to talk directly with a customer support agent using the phone. That said, the live chat option is excellent.
There is also plenty of information for players available in the site’s FAQ section.
Players can also make a complaint if they need to. The option to do this can be found in the information centre. In my experience, the site is very quick to respond and deal with any issues a bettor might have.
With that said, rest assured that William Hill is a verified safe and trusted bookmaker.
What sports can I live stream at William Hill?
William Hill’s sports catalogue is very impressive, and what’s even more impressive is the fact that the majority of the sports will offer some sort of live stream.
Football and horse racing are, by far, the most popular two sports to bet on at William Hill, and you will find a selection of live streams for both. Of course, the site doesn’t provide live streams for the Premier League or the Champions League, but it does cover a range of leagues across Europe and it covers some FA and League Cup action throughout the year.
How long does it take for William Hill UK to reply?
In my experience, William Hill was very quick to respond to my complaints when I used the live chat. It didn’t appear to matter what time of day or which day of the week they were contacted on, with the team able to respond efficiently.
When I tried to use it, their Twitter service was a little slower to respond, but the agent was still friendly and helpful when it did.
Readers should be aware that the numbers that they will find on the William Hill website are for the operator’s physical shops and not for online customers.
The easiest way to find what events are available for live streaming is to click on the in-play option and then toggle the ‘live stream only’ tag.
How can I get free bets on William Hill?
One of William Hill’s big selling points is the number of promotions and free bets that it runs. Players just need to click on the promotions tab at the top of the page to open up the current selection. They will find a number of sections here, including ‘Your Rewards, ’ ‘Headline Promotions, ’ and ‘Key Features.
Outside of checking this regularly, I would recommend players sign up for the William Hill mailing list. This will alert you of any new free bets or promotions for existing customers that the operator is running.
In terms of claiming the bets, the way this is done will change from bet to bet, so be sure to read through the terms & conditions thoroughly to be sure of what you are signing up for.
Can William Hill take money back?
No. William Hill can not take money back from you that you have won. It is important, however, for people to remember that when they win free bets or some sort of promotion, they will not be able to keep the funds credited to them, only the ones that they have won from them. These will also be subject to wagering requirements.
Can you cash out at William Hill?
Yes. William Hill does provide its players with a cash-out betting feature.
Of course, this option may not be available with every bet and it will depend on how you are performing. If you have a five-fold acca on and three of the teams are losing, don’t expect to be given a cash-out opportunity, and if you are, it will likely be for a few pence.
When utilised correctly, though, a cash-out can feel like a great way of making some money on a bet that may not go your way if it sticks the course.
Does William Hill have acca insurance?
Yes. William Hill likes to give players plenty of freedom with the way that they bet. The Acca Freedom promotion is essentially what William Hill have, instead of Acca insurance. It allows players to control the features that their accumulators have.
For example, players may be able to boost the odds of two or more of their selections on their acca. They may also be able to ensure their acca. This means that they will get their money back if they are let down by one bad result. This is a situation I’m sure most of us have found ourselves in, and this feature can be a little bit of a live-saver.
How do I cancel my William Hill account?
William Hill isn’t an operator that makes it difficult to close your account. Players need to click on the account icon in the top corner. They can then click on the Safer Gambling option. They will then be able to close their account by clicking on the account closure button and confirming their details.
