Birmingham will be looking to win their first trophy under the ownership of Tom Brady when they face Peterborough in the Vertu Trophy Final on Sunday.

The Blues, who are backed by NFL icon Brady, are already running away with the title in League One this season.

But they can get their hands on silverware before securing promotion to the Championship by beating Posh at Wembley and ending a 14-year wait for a trophy.

The last title the club won was the League Cup in 2011 when they beat Arsenal thanks to a late winner from striker Obafemi Martins.

Their opponents are the reigning champions in this competition, and Peterborough can make some history by becoming the first team to win it consecutively.

They beat Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney‘s Wrexham to reach the showpiece EFL match, but they remain big underdogs for this clash.

Birmingham vs Peterborough: Team news

£15million man Jay Stansfield will likely lead the line for Birmingham, with Alfie May challenging and Lydon Dykes injured.

Dykes scored the goal to send the Blues through to the final but now it seems he’s going to miss the big day out at Wembley.

Taylor Gardner-Hickman, Emil Hansson and Krystian Bielik are doubts for the game this weekend.

As for Peterborough, Tayo Edun missed the last game through suspension but he should be back in the fold for the final.

Malik Mothersille and Kwame Poku will be major threats to the Birmingham defence along with dangerous winger Abraham Odoh.

Birmingham vs Peterborough: What has been said?

Peterborough boss Ferguson, son of iconic Manchester United boss Sir Alex, isn’t massively looking forward to the Vertu Trophy Final.

He’s more interested in his side staying in League One this season, as they sit 15th in the table and only nine points above the drop zone.

Speaking last month, Ferguson said: “The motivation for me is staying in the league.

“The Wembley game is the least important of the season, I’m not interested in it at all.

“I will be on the day, but only on the day, and we’ve got to make sure we’re in a very good position by the time we get to Wembley.

“If we do that, then we can enjoy it. I don’t want to hear any talk about it because we have league games that are far more important than that game.”
