Chris Eubank Jr recently talked to his father for the first time in a ‘couple of years’ – and they share differing views over the now-infamous Conor Benn ‘egg’ slap.

The pair haven’t been on speaking terms since Eubank Jr chose to limit his dad’s input in his career after previously acting as his trainer and mentor.

Eubank Sr struggled with the decision, which was then impacted further by the death of his son Sebastian in 2021.

The father and son duo did, however, recently cross paths when attending cousin Harlem Eubank’s domestic dust-up with Tyrone McKenna in Brighton on March 7.

Their conversation quickly turned to Eubank Jr’s egg slap at the launch press conference for his upcoming grudge match with Benn.

Speaking to Ring Magazine of their brief chat, Eubank Jr said: “I spoke to him briefly a few weeks ago, and I said exactly that.

“He said, ‘You shouldn’t have done that, I don’t condone that.’ And I don’t condone it either.

“I don’t think anyone should attack or hit or do anything to like that to an opponent.

“But I did it for a genuine reason, a real reason, it was a statement, it wasn’t an act of violence.

“My thing was, I said to him, ‘I’m gonna write a book one day’, and if he was still by my side advising and leading everything I did like he did at the start of my career, then in the book it would say, ‘I thought about hitting Conor with an egg, but my dad told me no so I didn’t do it’.

“That’s what I would’ve written, and nobody gives a s*** about that story.

“The story now, whether it was wrong or right, the story is – I did it, and it made worldwide news, so for better or for worse, it’s my story.

“It’s my path, it’s what I chose to do, and as a man, that’s what I want to be able to write down.

“The things I’m doing are my own choices, they’re my decisions to make, they’re my successes and they’re my failures, and I can live with that.

“I told him all this at Harlem’s fight, I popped up there and I bumped into him and we talked for a few minutes before Harlem went out.”

Eubank Jr and Benn will meet at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on April 26 – 32 years after their fathers last locked horns.

In 1990, Eubank Sr stopped Nigel Benn in the ninth round at Birmingham’s Resorts World Arena.

The pair then boxed to a controversial split draw at Old Trafford three years later, which Eubank Sr has since admitted should have been awarded to Benn.

A trilogy was expected to follow, but it never came to fruition.

Now, their sons are set to finish what their dads started.

Nigel has been heavily involved in the build-up, but Eubank Sr has played no part and isn’t expected to be there on fight night.
