If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

That is what the NBA is asking.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - APRIL 13: Stephen Curry #30, Jimmy Butler #10 and Draymond Green #23 of the Golden State Warriors look on during the game against the LA Clippers on April 13, 2025 at Chase Center in San Francisco, California. The NBA’s final day of the regular season coincides with the final round at Augusta National.

And while the Association still has a handful of games that are going to impact seeding and the postseason, including a thrilling overtime affair that saw Kawhi Leonard and the Los Angeles Clippers outlast the Golden State Warriors 124-119, most people are going to choose to tune into the Masters.

Especially with Rory McIlroy battling his way into the lead and trying to bring home his first green jacket and first major win in over 10 years.

That has left fans asking the same question, what is the NBA doing?

Noted NBA savant and founder of The Ringer, Bill Simmons was quick to point out the league and its continuous ways to hurt its own product.

“This Clips/Warriors game should never in a million years be competing directly against the Masters but the NBA wants to stay on brand at all times,” Simmons posted on X.

“The NBA is dead,” a fan dramatically chimed in.

“They figure they can’t compete against the NFL, so they try to compete against all the other sports,” another fan wrote.

Of course, the NBA schedule came out last August, so it’s impossible to predict how things will shake up on the last day of the regular season.

But when you are up against McIlroy trying to vanquish a decade full of demons, it’s going to be an uphill battle to climb.
