Sheffield United vs Cardiff preview & prediction

Sheffield United faced Plymouth on Saturday in a must-win clash after losing twice prior to Oxford and Millwall (both 1-0’s).

Instead, they lost 2-1 and have hit the worst form possible at the crucial stage to set them six points adrift now of an automatic promotion spot.

They now may need to focus on the play-offs in a couple of weeks unless Leeds and Burnley slip up which doesn’t look likely given they only have six losses between them all season.

They’ve lost two games against teams amongst the relegation conversation this season, including Plymouth who sit rock bottom.

That said, Cardiff are winless in four with three draws and a loss.

But these sides sense survival at the moment with only nine points between the bottom nine sides.

It will only take teams like Oxford losing each game from here on in to create a chance for teams like Cardiff to escape from the drop.

Six of the bottom eight picked up points last gameweek and there ultimately has not been many losses amongst them in comparison to the mid-table sides.

Only three of the top eight won in comparison and the Championship continues to live up to its billing of being unpredictable.

Sheffield will surely be able to topple Cardiff but it looks like it could be another hard-fought battle with two teams desperate to get a win.

United don’t tend to draw this season, losing more than they have drawn games this season but still have 26 wins due to their fairly solid defence.

Of course that’s taken a hit recently but that can often light a fire under them to fix the issues, especially the lack of goals scored.

Scoring just once in the last three is more the reason they’ve lost as they can usually sit and defend a lead, but were caught out instead recently.

Cardiff have only won nine times this season so that looks unlikely but they have drawn as many as 15 which suggests they can hold teams like Sheffield who may well struggle to score again with their confidence knocked.
