Luton v Coventry prediction
Luton head into Saturday afternoon’s gigantic clash at Kenilworth Road as favourites for victory against Coventry despite being the side currently in the relegation zone and coming up against a team in the play-offs.
Matt Bloomfield’s side have lost only one of their last eight matches and have managed to string together back to back wins for only the second time this season heading into their final home game of the season against the Sky Blues on Saturday lunchtime.
The Hatters’ 3-1 win over Coventry’s play-off rivals Bristol City on Easter Monday will stand them in good stead and in confident mood of being able to take maximum points off another side with Premier League aspirations next season.
The Bedfordshire side head into the weekend still in the relegation zone despite picking up maximum points over the Easter weekend due to none of the bottom six losing on Monday, leaving just goal difference separating Luton from safety.
Coventry head to Bedfordshire having lost one of their last four games but with two wins from their last six, they’ll be wanting to add to that tally to potentially secure a top six finish on Saturday, and build winning momentum ahead of their play-off campaign.
Frank Lampard has done a fantastic job since taking over from Mark Robins in November, taking over a side just two points above the relegation zone and turning them into genuine play-off contenders, with a three point lead over seventh placed Middlesbrough with just a couple of matches still to play.
The West Midlands side come up against the Teesside club on the final day of the season next week, making Saturday’s game at Luton a huge one in order to avoid what would theoretically be a play-off quarter final to see which side will continue their season.
The Sky Blues have picked up only one point from their last four matches away from home ahead of their trip to an in form Luton side battling for their lives to maintain their Championship status.
Coventry ended a 10-match winless run against Luton earlier in the season with a 3-2 victory over the Hatters back in October. Saturday’s bout will be just the second between the sides since the two competed in the 2023 Championship play-off final, which Luton won on penalties.
