Friday horse racing tips

  • GOODWOOD
    2.40: Mr Hampstead 4/1 (1pt)
    3.50: Liberty Lane 5/2 (1pt)
  • HAYDOCK
    3.00: Unequal Love 13/8 (NAP – 2pts)

Mr Hampstead

Went up to a rating of 86 as a two-year-old and even entered into some high level group races.

Despite being a huge price for those he still finished way off the pace and struggled.

He’s now been with trainer Raphael E Freire since September though and on return placed third, definitely a plus and only dropped 1lb for that and the group losses.

Gelded in March and then returned earlier this month to win comfortably ahead of five rivals, by five lengths over course and distance.

Liberty Lane

Would go for Silver Knott most of the time but given a huge 7lb penalty I’m struggling to see him fending off Liberty Lane.

William Buick and Charlie Appleby have been in great form at the start of the season though and given the strong price of the horse despite the penalty, you’d expect him to run well at least.

This horse won a 31 runner race at Newmarket before placing a decent second behind Lead Artist.

That has worked out well since but this horse’s run at Doncaster hasn’t quite been up to the standard he showed last year.

But earlier this month he placed a decent third in a Group 2 which puts him right up there as Karl Burke sends this gelding out quickly again to hit form.

Unequal Love

This mare has long been a great runner for Cheveley Park Stud and William Haggas.

She got up to a mark of 107 before running uncharacteristically off the pace in arguably, his last two races.

She could bounce back here though in a slightly easier race, having only been seen in her last two races in group company.

Tom Marquand is a dependable jockey booking having a great relationship with this horse and knows exactly how to steer her to victory.
