Manchester United are set to make an improved offer in excess of £60million for Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo, talkSPORT understands.

The Red Devils saw an earlier offer of £45m plus £10m in add-ons turned down by the west London club who valued the 25-year-old at £60m.

It now appears that Brentford are likely to get their asking price which falls in the region of the £62.5m United are paying to secure the services of Matheus Cunha from Wolves.

Should Brentford accept United’s fresh offer then it would instantly become their record sale after the £40m fee recouped for Ivan Toney last summer.

Mbeumo is set to land a sizable wage increase to join Manchester United.

The Cameroonian currently earns in the region of £50,000-a-week but is set to earn five times that amount with United happy to meet his weekly demands of £250,000.

The Red Devils boss is looking to secure his reinforcements early with an emphasis on attacking players following the club’s 15th-placed finish having scored just 44 goals in 38 matches.

Meanwhile, Mbeumo produced his most fruitful campaign so far as he helped fire the Bees to a mid-table finish.

Mbeumo weighed in with an impressive 20 goals and seven assists in the Premier League with only Mohamed Salah, Erling Haaland and Alexander Isak scoring more.

And United will hope he can continue his fine form should he make the move to Old Trafford.

Amorim’s men missed out on Champions League qualification after their Europa League final defeat to Tottenham last month.

Mbeumo has just one year remaining on his current deal meaning a departure was always on the cards this summer.

Newcastle were credited with an interest in the winger with Champions League football on the table.

But Old Trafford appears to be his next destination in the event of a move away from the GTech Community Stadium.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank revealed last month that Mbeumo could be the second key player to leave the club in the last 12 months.

“I can definitely understand the interest in him,” he said after the final game of the season against Wolves.

“There should be interest in him. He is at his best age, he has scored 20 goals.

“I would like to keep him, but we are a selling club so if someone comes in with the right price.”

Ruben Amorim is moving quickly in reshaping his squad for next season

Further incomings are likely to materialise at Old Trafford this summer with a centre midfielder and a defender both areas of need.

Whilst the new additions will be intriguing viewing, so will be who Amorim ships out this summer.

Amorim has had six months to assess what he has at his disposal and the Portuguese coach is likely to offload those he doesn’t have in his plans for the future.

Of the players at risk, Rasmus Hojlund could see his time at the club come to a premature end while Marcus Rashford is unlikely to return to the club following his loan at Aston Villa.

Goalkeeper Andre Onana’s future is subject of speculation following his error-laden season and Alejandro Garnacho has reportedly been told to find another club.

Meanwhile, skipper Bruno Fernandes appears set to remain at the club after turning down a money-spinning move to the Saudi Pro League.
