Big-time heavyweight boxing comes from Portman Road Football Ground in Ipswich on Saturday evening.
Frank Warren for Queensberry Promotions presents Running Towards Adversity, a stacked show featuring several popular titles, including the European heavyweight crown, as Nelson Hysa fights Patrick Korte over 12 rounds.
The main attraction and top-of-the-bill blockbuster calls the always exciting Fabio Wardley back to the ring. The unbeaten heavyweight takes on Australia’s Justis Huni, himself a fighter yet to taste defeat. Which gladiator will come out on top and maintain their winning ways? The crowd hopes for another showreel KO from Wardley, but the form tells us to be wary of the visitor. Huni is in Ipswich to spoil the party.
Will Wardley snatch a 19th career win to delight his fans and drive him up the heavyweight rankings? talkSPORT’s boxing betting writer and former professional fighter, Frankie Monkhouse, has studied the stats, collected the best markets and uncovered the value. He offers readers his usual in-depth and professional preview of the main event.
Wardley vs Huni odds
The majority of boxing enthusiasts packing the Suffolk venue expect a win for Wardley, and oddsmakers working at the leading boxing sportsbooks agree. The Englishman is the pre-fight favourite in this Ashes showdown, with the visiting Aussie written off by the odds.
Wardley fans have grown accustomed to seeing the Ipswich puncher enter the ring with short odds attached in the betting, but there’s more value than usual as he takes on a dangerous opponent. Saturday will give a better understanding of Fabio’s ability and whether he’s good enough to go all the way, or if he’s best suited to domestic-level opposition.
Will you side with home advantage or take the value on the underdog who brings power and form? Check out the latest betting odds from the fight-winner market below.

- Draw – 14/1 at bet365
- Justis Huni – 9/4 at bet365
Wardley vs Huni outcome odds
As my example shows, the short odds available on Wardley mean a sizable stake is required for a return worth winning. That means you can increase your stake, take a shot on the underdog at a higher price, or play one of the many special markets available on this bout.
Boxing betting has a reputation for not offering too much in terms of value, with traders locking down most bouts, especially at the highest level. But that’s not an accusation I agree with. There’s much more to boxing betting than meets the eye.
Look beyond the fight-winner market and you’ll find a catalogue of interesting betting markets, with a range of odds available. You can predict the total number of rounds in a contest, which fighter will be knocked down, the bout to end inside a minute, and plenty more besides. Research both fighters, study the stats and make your findings fit a market with odds that appeal to you.
As regular readers of my boxing betting previews for TalkSPORT already know, I’m a massive fan of the method of victory betting market. It has given us many winners at excellent odds this year already, and I’m confident there are many more to come.
When playing the method of victory betting market, you’re tasked with predicting the winning fighter and how they’ll achieve the result, on points or by knockout. Landing this bet is more difficult than the fight-winner option, but the prizes are more attractive. Here are the current method of victory odds.
- Wardley by KO/TKO – 5/6 at bet365
- Wardley on points – 7/2 at bet365
- Huni by KO/TKO – 7/1 at bet365
- Huni on points – 4/1 at bet365
Wardley prepares for war
Fabio Wardley boasts a near-perfect professional record of 18 wins against no defeats and one draw. The 30-year-old has dealt with all but two of his opponents inside the distance, resulting in a fearsome 94% KO average. He won his most recent bout by destroying British rival Frazer Clarke inside a round in Saudi Arabia late last year. That’s worth keeping in mind when attempting to solve the method of victory betting. Another stoppage win for Wardley would prove he’s on the fast track to the big time.
Wardley made his professional debut in 2017 with a points win over four rounds. He tested the judges on his bow at the world-famous York Hall, Bethnal Green, but he wasn’t about to make a habit of leaving his fate in the hands of the officials. Fabio embarked on a stunning run of knockout wins that earned him several respected titles, including the English and British heavyweight straps. He then added the Commonwealth and European crowns with a seventh-round TKO win over David Adeleye in 2023.
Despite a stunning list of knockout wins over decent opposition, Wardley has one draw on his CV after ending level with Frazier Clarke over 12 rounds last March. Clarke was down in round seven and lost a point in the seventh for low blows, making the final decision a surprise. Many combat sports enthusiasts believed Fabio earned the nod that evening. Wardley proved it when finishing the rematch in the opening round, dropping his man with a heavy right hand in the opening exchanges.
Wardley stats:
- Age: 30 years old
- Height: 6’5″
- Weight: Heavyweight
- Record: 18-0-1
Huni boasts a sweet record
Queensland-born fighter Justis Huni arrives in the United Kingdom with a pristine record. He boasts 12 wins from a dozen bouts, beating seven opponents inside the distance. His CV shows the 26-year-old Australian has concussive power in both hands, a high work rate, and the boxing IQ needed to impress the judges when needed. Huni will require all those qualities and more if he’s to come to England and derail the Wardley express.
The warrior based in Brisbane, known as JPH, made a fast start to life in the professional ranks, winning the Australian heavyweight title on debut. The 6’4” orthodox boxer beat Faiga Opelu in round seven to collect the strap, and he quickly defended it by beating Arsene Fosso inside four rounds on his second appearance. Justis continues to impress, climbing the ranks with an eye-catching winning streak. He’s young, powerful, and ambitious, and he carries healthy support in his homeland. The problem is, he’s now far from home.
Knocking out rivals on the Australian boxing scene is impressive, but doing it on the global stage is very different. A win in the UK over Wardley would catapult Huni up the rankings and towards the major players. He’s currently number one in his homeland and tenth on the global charts, with his opponent two places higher. Victory would edge him closer to the likes of Anthony Joshua, Joseph Parker, and Agit Kabayel, transforming his career overnight. Does he have the skills to score a transformative win in Ipswich? We can’t wait to find out.
Huni stats:
- Age: 26 years old
- Height: 6’4″
- Weight: Heavyweight
- Record: 12-0-0
Wardley vs Huni betting tips
Now you’re up to speed on the form and betting odds of both Wardley and Huni, it’s time to settle on our final predictions. I have selected three possible approaches for Saturday’s bout, and you can divide your stake and follow all picks, or focus on your favourite. I aimed for a good mix of likely winners and value, ensuring there’s something for everyone and a bet to suit all budgets.
Under 9.5 rounds
Our first bet comes from the total rounds market, where we’re playing under 9.5 at a fair offer. When following this pick, you need the bout to end before the midway point of the ninth round. It doesn’t matter who wins, how quickly, or what punch decides the outcome. As long as the result is wrapped up in the first nine and a half rounds, your bet wins.
Looking at the stats, we see backing under 9.5 rounds would’ve landed you a profit in all but one of Wardley’s previous bouts. He dealt with Clarke in a round, Adeleye inside seven and got rid of Nathan Gorman in three. Huni won his last three bouts in the second round. Backing under 9.5 rounds is a sensible approach when dealing with two big hitters.

Wardley to win
Moving to our second pick on Saturday’s headliner, and we’re picking sides when backing Wardley to win at odds of 4/11. That bet won’t make you rich overnight, but it’s a fair offer and is better than I expected to find, making it a worthwhile wager. It’s been a while since Fabio’s fans could follow him at odds that they can work with, and I advise taking advantage.
Saturday is another step up in class for Fabio as he faces a fellow opponent from the top 10 of the world rankings. But he’s made it this far on merit and silenced his doubters when wiping the floor with Clarke last year. Wardley is unbeaten, enjoys the home advantage, and much of the crowd is there to see him win. That backing will push him to a big performance.
Back Wardley to win at 4/11 with bet365
Wardley in rounds 1-3
Our third and final pick on Wardley vs Huni is on the Englishman to win inside the opening three rounds. We’re taking a bit of a chance here, but the odds make it easier to trust a fast start. If you’re looking to keep your stakes small and shoot for a decent win while enjoying an exciting bout, I’ve found you something to follow.
Wardley beat Clarke inside a round last time and also beat Gorman in three, Chris Healy in two, Daniel Martz in the second, and Nick Webb in the opener. Saturday is a different level of opponent, but the atmosphere will be electric, and Wardley will want to put his stamp on the bout as early as possible. Coming with an unbeaten record, Wardley won’t have to go looking for Huni. The gladiators will clash in the centre of the ring, with fireworks guaranteed.
Back Wardley to win in rounds at 1-3 at 10/1 with bet365
