Werder Bremen vs Bayern Munich predictions

Bayern Munich will still be on a high this weekend after their 9-2 victory over Dinamo Zagreb on matchday one of the Champions League.

Now that the group stage has been replaced by a league phase, goal difference is likely to be a more important factor this season. It seems like Bayern got the memo straight away.

With 50 minutes on the clock, the scoreline was only 4-2 in Bayern’s favour. Dinamo were still in the game, but the ruthless Bavarians soon took it away from them.

Harry Kane was the star of the show with a four-goal haul, while Michael Olise bagged a brace and Raphael Guerreiro, Leroy Sane and Leon Goretzka also got in on the act.

It was a stunning win and one that will have helped Vincent Kompany feel a lot more settled at the Allianz Arena.

It is fair to say more than a few eyebrows were raised when Kompany was chosen as Thomas Tuchel’s successor over the summer.

The Belgium international’s ability to speak German no doubt helped his cause, as did the fact that Bayern missed out on other targets such as Xabi Alonso, Ralf Rangnick and Julian Nagelsmann.

But Kompany’s managerial CV is mixed at best and, in the Premier League last season, he did not exactly cover himself in glory as Burnley were relegated without ever making it out of the bottom three.

However, the Manchester City legend is off to an excellent start in Munich. As well as that demolition of Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League, Bayern have a 100 percent record in the Bundesliga.

After a 3-2 victory over Wolfsburg and a 2-0 defeat of Freiburg, Kompany’s charges thrashed Holstein Kiel 6-1 last weekend.

They have a slender lead over Bayer Leverkusen after the champions lost 3-2 to RB Leipzig, and Bayern will aim to stay ahead of Leverkusen for as long as possible.

Those two teams meet next weekend, so if both title challengers win in gameweek, Bayern will have the chance to go five points ahead of Leverkusen by the end of September.

Werder Bremen vs Bayern Munich betting tips

Bayern Munich will be looking to maintain their perfect start to the Bundesliga season against Werder Bremen.

Bayern Munich/Bayern Munich half-time/full-time

Werder Bremen are also unbeaten at the beginning of 2024/25, having drawn with Augsburg (2-2) and Borussia Dortmund (0-0), before beating Mainz 2-1 last weekend.

Ole Werner’s side are looking to improve on last season’s ninth-place finish and the manager will be reasonably pleased with the manner in which his team have kicked off their campaign.

However, that undefeated record is likely to come to an end when Bayern Munich make the trip to the Weserstadion.

Kompany’s team are in the groove and they should run out comfortable winners in their latest Bundesliga assignment.

Werder are unlikely to be blown away on home turf, but they could find themselves behind from half-time onwards.

Tip Bayern Munich/Bayern Munich in the half-time/full-time market at evens with Betfair

Bayern Munich to lead at 30 minutes

Bayern Munich have been fast starters so far this season. Jamal Musiala put them 1-0 up within seconds of kick-off against Holstein Kiel last weekend, with Kane making it 2-0 in the seventh minute.

In four of the five matches they have played across three different competitions, Bayern have been ahead inside 30 minutes.

The exception was the 2-0 win against Freiburg, but even then Kompany’s men had the lead before half-time.

Bayern are full of confidence right now and we expect them to get out of the blocks quickly again here.

Werder Bremen could find themselves trailing with half an hour gone.

Bayern Munich to win and under 4.5 goals

Bayern Munich may have won every match they have contested so far this season, but their performances have not been flawless.

That is not to say Kompany’s team were not worthy winners on each occasion. But this team still looks like a work in progress, particularly defensively.

That might not be an issue in most of the games they contest this term. Even if they were to concede one or two goals in every fixture, Bayern have the attacking firepower to get the better of most opponents in Germany.

We do not envisage this meeting with Werder Bremen being as high-scoring as the Holstein Kiel or Dinamo Zagreb encounters, though.

Werder are a decent side and, with that Bayer Leverkusen game on the horizon next weekend, Bayern could ease up if they are, say, two goals ahead in the second half.
