Ted’s best horse racing tips, September 24, 2024:
Find the following racing tips of the day for Tuesday, September 24. Play on the races with our best expert-rated horse racing betting sites:
Fontwell 1.20 – Hauraki Gulf – bet with SBK
Fontwell 2.30 – Norley – bet with BetMGM
Fontwell 4.15 – Pure Theatre – bet with VBET
Fontwell 1.20 – Hauraki Gulf
The Deborah Cole trained HAURAKI GULF has won two of his six starts over fences, but reverts to the smaller obstacles here for this Novice event over an extended 2m5f. On these terms he has to be taken very seriously, as he is receipt of upwards of 7lb from the protagonists, and given that he has a BHA rating of 117 he comes out best at the weights due to the penalty structure.
The salient point could be the ground – remarkably at the time of writing, Fontwell had escaped the worst of the rain, but there is plenty forecast. That looks key for Hauraki Gulf, as it is a case of the more rain the merrier – all his best performances have come with significant give underfoot.
With a deluge of rain forecast everything could be coming in his favour for a big performance. He has performed well when fresh in the past so I would have little concern about him being revved up for this assignment.
Chris Ward is in the saddle claiming 3lb, and this combination look to have obvious claims.
Fontwell 2.30 – Norley
This looks a wide-open encounter, and I am going to take a chance on NORLEY who wasn’t anywhere near his best in two starts with Tom Gretton, but can get in the shake-up here now back with the Ben Pauling team.
The 9-year-old had lost his way over the last few months, but could be galvanised now back with his former handler, and is now back over Hurdles off a mark of 112 – the same rating as when last successful, so assessor has released their grip to an extent.
For his age he is relatively lightly-raced, and for a horse who is very comfortable in Class 4 company, he can be a threat to all if tuned-up here.
The excellent Beau Morgan is on board claiming 5lb, and so Norley can’t be ignored for the Cotswold team from this reduced mark and looks like an each-way call in this race.
Fontwell 4.15 – Pure Theatre
PURE THEATRE makes her Chase debut in this contest over an extended 2m3f, and she looks to have solid claims first time up over fences.
This lightly-raced 6-year-old has the pedigree to suggest that there should be even more to come over the larger obstacles, and the Anthony Honeyball trained representative can get off the mark at the first time of asking here.
She shaped as though she massively needed the run when finishing sixth at Worcester last month sporting a first-time tongue tie, and should be a lot happier here with that run under her belt and the drop back in trip should be of no concern.
It is also worth noting that she has visited this venue once – and won once, so clearly didn’t have any issues with the idiosyncrasies of Fontwell’s layout.
Rex Dingle will be in the saddle, and with a clear round of jumping, the daughter of Court Cave can make her presence felt in this assignment.
Don’t forget Ed will be back on Saturday with his best bets as all eyes will be on the Group 1 action at Newmarket…
