Friday racing tips

NEWMARKET
1.50: Spiritual 10/3 (1.5pts)
2.25: Sea Of Roses 13/2 Each-way (1.5pts)
3.00: Formal 6/4 (2pts)
3.35: Task Force 11/2 each-way (2pts)

Spiritual

There’s three fillies in here that really stand out for their placed efforts or only slightly worse in tough Group contests this season.

Sirona, Spiritual, and Doom have each gone close or been beaten well by some tough fillies like Porta Fortuna, Tamfana and Friendly Soul.

Doom was well beaten including placing well behind Spiritual at Sandown in the Atalanta Stakes in August, but she did show better form at Ascot twice and the Curragh in solid placed efforts.

She also weakened out over at Doncaster in the Group 3 Sceptre Fillies’ Stakes just 12 days prior to this race and the front two in the market look to have that little bit more to offer.

Spiritual takes the pick though, she just seems that little bit more unexposed and her sole soft ground run was a win which bodes well for the coming weather.

She beat Soprano at Sandown in the listed Distaff contest in July but then didn’t pick up at Deauville next time, which was won well by Soprano.

Her 4th behind Tamfana is also encouraging just three lengths away and we could see more improvements on the soft ground.

Sea Of Roses

Likes the soft ground and won last time out at Windsor ahead of Deira Mile quite nicely over this distance.

She’s always shown to have that quality we saw last time out but it’s not quite been seen in the tough listed contests she’s placed in prior to that.

Including a close third to Gather Ye Rosebuds, also over 1m4f, and would have attempted the Aphrodite Fillies’ Stakes over course and distance in July but didn’t suit the firm ground.

In fact her soft ground record reads 12031, remarkably more consistent than when seen over good ground, even her good to soft is encouraging heading into this meeting.

Formal

Had tipped Tabiti in the antepost market, but she’s been opted out by Ralph Beckett.

Formal is also impressive though, with two wins from two for Sir Michael Stoute and had William Buick booked early on in proceedings.

She won as the odds-on favourite last time out and on soft ground which can only be a benefit and might explain her early price of just 6/4 up against some Aidan O’Brien-trained two-year-olds.

Add to that, she’s got incredible pedigree out of Veracious (Frankel) and by Dubawi, she could be quite smart.

Task Force

There are two other Juddmonte-owned horses that are big contenders in the Dubai Joel Stakes.

The two three-year-olds have the weight advantage over the older Highland Avenue.

Lead Artist beat Task Force by over a length at Goodwood in the Group 3 Thoroughbred Stakes in August, but then was well beaten over 7f in the Group 2 Park Stakes at Doncaster to Kinross who bounced back to winning ways well.

Task Force was upped in trip to 1m1f at York to come 4th of 9 in the Strensall.

But should be seen to better effect back at this trip should he settle better on what will be his fifth start of the season.
