Plymouth v Luton preview

Plymouth head into Friday night’s Championship clash with Luton looking for their second home win in a row having picked up their first victory of the league campaign in their most recent Home Park outing against then-table toppers Sunderland.

Wayne Rooney’s side have endured a tricky start to the campaign on the whole, with just one win in their last six league games and three defeats in their last four outings in all competitions ahead of Friday night’s tie against a side who were in the Premier League last season.

But the Devon side will take confidence into Friday’s game with the knowledge that they’ve lost only one of the four matches they’ve played at home in all competitions this season, winning two of them, and will fancy themselves in front of their home crowd once again.

Last weekend’s 1-0 defeat against top of the table West Brom leaves the Pilgrims with just five points from their opening six matches, which leaves them 20th in the table, just a point above the drop zone, though a big win on Friday could catapult them into the top half of the table for at least the best part of 24 hours.

Luton started the season as one of the favourites for an instant return back to the Premier League after suffering relegation from the top flight last season with an 18th placed finish.

Four defeats in their opening five matches of the new season was not part of the plan for Rob Edwards’ side in their bid to bounce back as a promotion candidates, but the Hatters have managed to pick up victories in each of their last two outings.

Narrow victories over Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday have seen the Bedfordshire side propel themselves up the table in recent weeks from second bottom to 15th in the Championship standings, where they now sit just three points off the top seven.

Plymouth are winless in their last five matches against Luton, with the Hatters unbeaten at Home Park since 2006, with three wins from their last four visits to the Devon city.

Plymouth v Luton betting tips

Luton make the trip to Devon on Friday night as strong favourites and will expect themselves to return to Bedfordshire with all three points to their name.

SBK’s offer of 42/5 on a 2-1 away win looks a sensible shout with a hard fought game expected against a Plymouth side with one defeat in their last four home games, but Luton have found form in recent weeks and their quality should shine through.
