Everyone has regrets in their life.

Not everyone has a regret as big as entertainment producer Michael Fuir.

Swift has been on tour since March of 2023, selling out stadiums and arenas across the globe for her Eras Tour showGetty

Fuir once prevented global poster icon Taylor Swift from performing the national anthem at the US Open.

Of course Swift was barely a blip on anyone’s radar in 2004, so it was almost impossible to have predicted what she would become 20 years later.

Yet, Fuir won’t ever let it go.

Hopping on the tennis podcast, Served with Andy Roddick, Fuir explained his decision at the time.

“Her father asked us if we’d put her on Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day,” he told the 2003 US Open champion.

“And we said: ‘She’s just taking off, she’s really country, we don’t think that would play in New York’. I do not share this publicly very often.

“Worst decision I ever made.”

Swift had performed at the US Open the previous two years, but when asked if she could return for a third, Fuir didn’t think it was the best idea.

Now, 14 Grammy Awards and more than 100 million albums sold later, Fuir is still kicking himself over the decision to pass on Swift.

The good news is, Swift and the US Open committee clearly don’t have any bad blood amongst them.

Swift isn’t holding any grudges. In August she was seen with boyfriend Travis Kelce enjoying the men’s final, which was won by Jannik Sinner, who stopped Taylor Fritz from becoming the first American since Roddick to triumph in New York.

Along with the best football player in the NFL, Patrick Mahomes, and wife Brittany.

If Swift felt that she was done wrong by the US Open and its decision to not let her perform more than 20 years ago, she is clearly over it.

At least Fuir can take solace in the fact that he didn’t destroy the relationship between Swift and the US Open.

However, the days of having Swift’s father ask for permission for his daughter to perform at the US Open are long gone.

These days, if the US Open is ever going to have Swift perform for them again, they better get in line behind the rest of the world.

The list of people to tell Swift they do not want her to perform at their event, can probably be counted on one hand.

Unfortunately for Fuir, he’s on that short list.
