Arsenal vs Leicester City predictions

The fallout has raged all week. Manchester City 2-2 Arsenal was one of the most memorable Premier League games in recent times, and the discussion is only starting to quieten down now that we are approaching the next set of Premier League fixtures.

There are two schools of thought surrounding Arsenal’s performance. The positive one argues that Mikel Arteta’s men were excellent in difficult circumstances.

Leading 2-1 at the start of the second half but with a numerical disadvantage following Leandro Trossard’s red card on the stroke of the interval, Arsenal defended intelligently, diligently and bravely to keep City at bay until deep into second-half stoppage time.

This view states that a draw at the Etihad Stadium is always a good result, and is even more so when you consider how tough it is to play against City with one fewer player.

Others are more critical. Arsenal managed just one shot in the second half as they barely got out of their own defensive third.

Arteta lined his side up without a forward and Arsenal often resorted to simply kicking the ball out of touch as they adopted an all-out-defence approach.

The truth probably lies somewhere in the middle. In the humble view of this writer, Arsenal’s approach was completely understandable and the concentration they showed was impressive. What is more, it is a matter of fact that the game plan was seconds away from bringing Arsenal a victory.

The concession of an equaliser so late in that game was a huge blow, as the Gunners would have got such a psychological boost had they been able to win at the Etihad for the first time since 2015.

But it was City who were despairing a day later when it was confirmed that Rodri, perhaps their most important player, is set to miss the rest of the season with a serious knee injury.

Arsenal warmed up for Saturday’s clash with Leicester by thrashing Bolton Wanderers 5-1 in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.

Arteta shuffled his pack for that game but we will see the strongest available Arsenal XI in this one. Martin Odegaard remains sidelined, though, while David Raya is a major doubt with a muscular issue.

Arsenal vs Leicester City betting tips

Arsenal will expect to get the better of Leicester City in the Premier League this weekend.

Arsenal to win to nil

Leicester were also involved in EFL Cup action in midweek, with Steve Cooper’s men needing a penalty shoot-out to get past Walsall after a 0-0 draw.

There was dissent in the stands after the match and Cooper is already starting to come under a little pressure. Leicester are still waiting for their first league win since promotion, having taken just three points from the first 15 available.

They are unlikely to pick up their maiden victory at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal are one of the best teams in Europe and they have only lost one home game in the top flight this calendar year.

Leicester remain reliant on Jamie Vardy, who turns 38 next birthday, for goals. Despite his impressive durability, Vardy is unlikely to get much change out of the fearsome centre-back duo of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes.

Arsenal are the best defensive team in the division and we like their chances of keeping another clean sheet on Saturday.

Arsenal to score in both halves

Leicester are yet to keep a clean sheet this season, but they have not been thrashed by anyone so far.

However, a first heavy defeat of 2024/25 could be on the horizon as they head to north London on Saturday.

Even without the injured Odegaard, Arsenal possess multiple sources of creativity and goals in the final third.

Cooper’s team will look to make life difficult for the Gunners, but that might not be enough to stop them conceding either side of the break.

All in all, this should be pretty comfortable for Arsenal.

Gabriel Magalhaes to score any time

It is a measure of both Arsenal’s status as strong favourites and Gabriel Magalhaes’ threat from set-pieces that he is available at a price as short as 9/2 to find the back of the net on Saturday.

By way of comparison, only one Leicester player – Vardy – is listed at shorter odds in this market.

Arsenal will dominate possession against the Foxes and they should get plenty of corners and free-kicks too.

Every Premier League follower is aware of how effective Arteta’s team are from dead-ball situations, thanks in large part to their set-piece coach Nicolas Jover.

Gabriel is their biggest aerial threat and no one would be surprised to see the Brazilian get his name on the scoresheet again.
