Bright heavyweight talent Delicious Orie has revealed he has been in contact with WWE and could be open to a move.

Orie was Team GB‘s representative at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in the super-heavyweight category, but was controversially outpointed by Armenian Davit Chaloyan to his disgust.

Orie faced Olympic heartache but could be handed a huge shot in WWE

The 27-year-old is considered one of Britain’s brightest prospects and has faced comparisons to Anthony Joshua, with calls now being made for the star to turn professional.

But despite Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren being expected to make approaches by many, it is actually wrestling promotion WWE who have made the move.

Orie revealed he was invited to the WWE’S NXT Performance Center, as part of a recruitment drive by the organisation to develop the next set of stars for its roster.

“It [ a message from WWE NXT] was certainly something to lift my mood after the Olympics,” he said.

“I thought at first that it could be a fake account. But then I looked into it with my manager Sean O’Toole and we realised it was the real thing.

“Like any kid, I got into wrestling when I was younger. I started watching it when I moved to the UK.

“I used to watch the likes of John Cena, The Undertaker while there was the odd appearance from the older legends like Stone Cold Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels.

“Me and my friends would do the moves. The usual putting the sofa cushions down for a bit of protection!

“It’s crazy to meet Shawn Michaels. I also got to meet Booker T who is another wrestling legend as he works as a commentator for NXT.”

On if the contact could lead to a more permanent switch alongside his boxing career, Orie added: “It’s something we could think about [joining WWE].

Orie has been branded as the ‘next Anthony Joshua’

“I want to be an inspiration for people. I know wrestling would increase my profile so much and I want to be a global star.

“That’s the aim, to be known all over the world. Boxing is still something I believe I can be a huge success in.”

It could mean that Orie decides to juggle a career in WWE alongside his plan to turn professional.

Orie could then fight in two squared circles at the same time, a feat which Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali, Floyd Mayweather and most recently Tyson Fury have completed in their careers.

An appearance in WWE would of course be a welcome boost for his profile, as he looks to take the blue-riband division in boxing by storm.

Despite defeat in the Olympics, Orie’s stock is still very high and he certainly has a bright future ahead of him.

He has always picked up invaluable experience, working with Frazer Clarke and Anthony Joshua during his career.

And his stardom will likely rocket if he is able to take to the iconic wrestling format in the US.
