The annual Equity Bank Golf open championship at MaryLouise Simkins Memorial Golf course in Namulonge continues to grow in stature and relevance each passing year.

With assured sponsorship from Equity Bank, and other partners, this signature golf tournament at the club has attained the much sought after attention with action in either gender for the main gross players, professionals and other subsidiary.

Abdallah Kakooza won the main gross category of the elite golfers, amassing a total of 213 gross in three rounds for a grueling 54 holes.

He was a shot better than the reigning Uganda Amateur open champion Joseph Reagan Akena (214) whilst Titus Okwong finished third with 215.

“I am happy for this victory. I look forward this performance for consistent displays” Kakooza, a home-grown golfer stated.

Joseph Cwinya-ai (217), Charles Lwanga Mulyanga (218) and Joseph Kasozi (218) completed the respective top five positions.

Group top performers:

Mark Rubatsimbira won group A (men) with 69 nett ahead of Collins Bulafu (73) and Elton Thembo (74).

The men group B was won by Allan Akiira with 34 points. Luke Nyakarahuka (33) and Charles Lutwama (30) followed suit.

Brian Aldomoro (41 points) was outstanding in group C. Jude Kyobe (39) was runners up whilst Dennis Katalihwa (38) finished third.

Faith Namara and Florence Namara finished with 30 and 25 points in group A.

Group B ladies was won by Gloria Owomugisha with 40 points ahead of Justina Ichabala with 31 points.

Seniors:

The senior category (55 years and above) was won by Kenneth Katarikawe (men) while Jennifer Opio won the female cluster.

Side-bets:

Resty Nalutaaya shot longest on hole 16 with Dephas Niwangumya having the longest shot among the men.

Baker Kisambira was the winner of the nearest to the pin competition on hole 11.

Meanwhile, Marvin Kibirige was the most outstanding professional to take home the biggest share of the Ug.Shs 10,000,000 prize money kitty.

Equity Bank was the title sponsor and they also announced a sponsorship of Ug.Shs 175, 000,000, with the majority directed toward building a halfway house on the course.

The other partners included; Pepsi, Munig Engineering, NARCRI, Fakruddin and Kachain Logistics.

The famous AFRIGO Band entertained the golfers and other guests during the 19th hole celebrations until late night.
